7 weeks ago I had a student go into
real problem sparring with another student.
She put her hands up. Sat on a bench within 20 seconds her eyes started rolling, and her breathing became super erratic, within about a minute her breathing had virtually stopped. They were only 4 of us in at the time. One of the other students got on the phone to the paramedics. Luckily they tuned up, in around 10 minutes thankfully, as she was dipping in and out of consciousness. I had to Keep shouting Her name so that she didn't go to sleep kept her sat up The paramedics turned up. She came round a little vomited all over the floor they gave her oxygen check her Obs, got her in the ambulance where by another 2 paramedics tuned up. Followerby, the helicopter crew who do not fly at night they took her so the Heath, where they carried out an emergency CT scan and rushed into 4 to 5 hour surgery.
she had cists on the ovaries, which had either detached or burst. Thank heavens that it happened whilst we were around as otherwise it would have been a disaster. I cannot say anything bad about the n h s that night.
We we're so lucky as there were only 3 paramedics with ambulances on duty in an area covering around 300000 people that night.
She, now making a recovery. It is taking time, but she is getting there.

TBF that's when they often shine 👍🏻.money no object approach to the golden hour.
But it's the aftercare of less urgent when they've fallen over or not even got started imo.

The impression I get from reading this forum along with several others is that the NHS varies massively from area to area.
Our area including local GP and local hospital is absolutely superb. And bares absolutely no resemblance to the service that some people are getting.
Doctors appointments are all same day and referrals for both my kids to have their tonsils out have been very quick.
Only problem I have had is the GP doesn't approve of shotgun licenses so makes life difficult.

absolutely ...... there was a woman went down at the reception desk last tuesday .... must've been a dozen medics appeared out the woodwork in seconds and she was on a gurney and gone - impressive response

when i went in there, last July when I had the pancreatitis attack - feet didn't touch the floor and was in in minutes, but had to wait 5-6 hrs for ward admission and wouldn't give me any pain killers other than paracetamol until I had a bed on a ward.

the Heath in 2020 ... in a quiet U/S scanning suite, having a routine scan, 'til the radiologist shifted a gall stone and gave me instant pancreatitis ... and i collapsed in a heap - had a dozen round me in seconds and whisked off to emergency

when you're obviously in distress, they're brilliant at what they do

had I been writhing in agony or similar last week, the pace at which I was dealt with would almost certainly have been more rapid - should've taken a copy of the email Cardiff sent me saying get to A&E rapido - might've made a difference

They actually called the surgeon in from home to carryout the operation

I can well believe that

the night I got a blues an' twos ride into Nevill Hall at summat past three in the morning in 2010, we had to wait for the consultant to turn in, to decide whether I was going into ICU, or on a ward - ended up with two of 'em, one either side of me debating a course of action, 'til I grabbed one by the arm and said " I don't care where you put me, just give me something for the pain "

Read into this how you will....
I went into privately organised appointment at our local main nhs hospital couple weeks back for a Blood pressure monitor..don't ask 😑. if i had been dumped there I would genuinely have thought I was in another country . All the other 3 couples waiting were Asian plus the plethora of nurses and Drs. Language I heard and plenty of signage was in various translations...
Just felt utterly shite the town I grew up in to feel like a stranger in a waiting room.
Maybe I'm ...whatever but was a bit of a crap feeling.

White lass that eventually dealt with me was sound even if the equipment they used was archaic.

I must say that sounds a very very different experience to our local NHS facilities.
We have a big health centre that was built in 2012 so still relatively new and very large. And is well staffed.
The hospital is older but still seems better than what my colleagues get on the other side of Surrey.

Just feels like it was built in the early 80s and nothings moved on...meanwhile if the internet is to be believed that hospital caters for 100k more folk in 30 years! No wonder they struggling
Land has been ear marked for a new one but they say it be 10 years before anything starts .

Rang the GP's at 09.30 this morning, explained why I was ringing, following up on last Thursday's call and could the receptionist confirm receipt of my MRI results from Hereford.
Arrived over the weekend apparently? (or after they'd closed on last Thursday afternoon, more like).
" Would it be possible to forward these to the Consultant Neurosurgeon in Cardiff please? - you have all the details in the email I copied you in on to Hereford county last Thursday afternoon "
she could see the email, but said the GP hadn't seen the results yet and it would probably be down to me to forward them to Cardiff o_Oo_O... the GP would probably call me to make an appointment once they'd seen them!!
" which would be when? I've already spent four days sat about waiting for them to arrive with you - I consider this to be reasonably urgent - I have no feeling in the bulk of my left leg "
" er -- how about Friday afternoon? "
" how about tomorrow morning, ASAP? Who will it be with ? " (there are a pair of idiots there, who no one will see, unless they're lead swingers !!)
" 11.40 with Dr R**** H**** OK? "
" Brilliant .. she's my own GP and a great doctor - see you in the morning " - she also knows that she, (or the surgery) only ever sees me, or hears my name, when I am really in need, so hoping for some proper progress in the a.m.! Don't think I've seen her in maybe 5-6-years, that I can recall

booked in at 11.30 .... then sat for an hour, waiting .. surgery was quiet, so can only assume she was busy reading/getting up to speed ... certainly had a handle on it all when I sat down with her.
Read me the results, such as they were, but couldn't make any determination without having the 2022 results for comparison (which she should have had on file??). Agreed that she couldn't see much else to be the cause.
Is going to write to the Neurosurgeon in Caerrrdiff, forwarding the results and a precis of presentations and occurrences

said it was an unusual situation to have had an MRI carried out, 'fore she'd even seen me, but understood it had been on the advice/instruction of my clinical lead in Caerrrdiff to get to an A&E, ASAP and get scanned

also queried why out of county, but agreed that for us Hereford's our nearest, but does complicate comm.s, as Wales and England's systems don't 'talk' to each

Next closest is a bloody shambles of a place - replaced our in town, brilliant hospital - has a catchment area 5-6 times greater and is always packed to the rafters with 'the great unwashed' freeloading on the system and too idle to go to a GP with their sniffles and headaches/hangovers🤬🤬

anyway .. all I can do now is sit back and wait for the neurosurgeon to contact me from Caerrrrdiff (I'll give 'em a week, then start chasing)
mean while I still have a very numb bum, etc. and what feels for all the world like a badly sunburnt butt cheek
can't sleep without a full house set of painkillers, but do sleep well once they kick in - they're addictive though (opiate based) so really don't wanna be doing it for too long

Very similar round here. Its alright saying the nhs wouldnt survive without the immigrant staff but then you look at the customers round here and they're the same. Also we seem to have a situation where native Brits are being trained as doctors then not getting enough jobs to stay in the trade. Meanwhile we import the immigrants?! Restore would get rid of all translation in the nhs so that should hopefully encourage a few to go. Hopefully they still have the english translations for Welsh where druid is. Not sure how many natives speak the lingo there! At least the languages are both native!

not heard much other than a brief email from my main contact in Caerrrdiff, saying she'd forwarded the MRI results to the consultant neurosurgeon.

been to Hereford County this afters for a scheduled 6 month follow up consult, with the surgeon who tried to persuade me to let him have me gall bladder last October  .. great bloke, with a real sense of humour and an easy way about him ... reckons my bloods're absolutely perfect and if everyone was as good at recovery as me " surgeons'd be out of a job " :ROFLMAO: .. discharged me from further follow ups and said any issues just contact him, or head into A&E if 'it' got me again :LOL:

could see I'd spent some serious time in A&E a few weeks ago, why and my MRI results, but wasn't up to him to discuss them with me .... wished me luck with it all and we each hoped we didn't see each other again in a long time (in the best possible sense) :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
