well as you saw above, this lot arrived this morning ...... ...................................................................................................... and then had to sort it all
WP_20251006_13_01_24_Pro.jpg
WP_20251006_13_45_43_Pro.jpg

cattle grid replacement materials ............................................................................................................................................................ and some 'stock' for me :giggle:
WP_20251006_17_49_07_Pro.jpg
WP_20251006_17_49_14_Pro.jpg

amazing how quickly 20/25 ft lengths of material 'disappear' when yerz knocking summat out
this pee-ed me off .......... 'sposed to be two in the bag ... some tosser at 'head office' in Llanelli, where all the profiling gets done, can't bloody count - or read !! :(
WP_20251006_13_32_35_Pro.jpg
only one in the bag and as i've got to machine them I really do not want to set up for one, then have to do it all again when #2 arrives

aaaaand then it was grass time again ....
the puff balls had to have it :ROFLMAO:
WP_20251006_15_32_24_Pro.jpg

and a quick five runs down the side of the drive -- the Dane can wait 'til the end of the week when it's dried out a LOT more --
don't want a repeat of the last episode, having to drag it out backwards on the particularly steep bit
WP_20251006_17_41_38_Pro.jpg

looks like Ex Stock's truck took a detour across the grass in parts .. lucky he didn't sink his steering axle, so assume that's half his doubles .... they usually send their seven an' a half up here, but no - sent an 18 tonner this morning - takes a bit of turning around with a 25 ft bed.
Driver rang me when he turned off the A465 for directions and as I'm trying to talk him in I'm thinking WTF is he???? and why the hell is he having to double shunt on two bends as he's talking to me :unsure: .. as the conversation went on I realised he's obviously using non-commercial sat nav and is coming up Penbidwal lane :oops: I only drive it when I have to - in the car FFS!!
when he tells me he's just passed Wood farm, I think - oh no he isn't - he's just gone past our turn so tell him to back up - 'til I ask him if it's on the left or the right -- " on the left " :(:oops: he's come up the lane !!! o_Oo_O
" keep coming, to the T junction, turn around there and come back in 50 yds and you'll see our drive in front of you - you'll never make the left turn from where you are, into our drive "
5 min.s later and he's on me patch
" you want to get them to buy you a commercial sat nav Russsel ... can't believe you made it up that lane!!!!! "
" Why? is there an easier route ?? "

sent him back down the way he should have come and bet he had an easier trip back down to the 465 :LOL:
he deffo won't make that mistake again :ROFLMAO:

might go down Penbidwal tomorrow and see how much of the banks he demolished :ROFLMAO:

Horsey girls msgd me last night - " had I seen the fence? they'd put some cones there " ???????????
didn't quite grasp WTF they were on about ................ 'til this morning when I went to Aber. to take the girls to school
WP_20251007_08_59_35_Pro.jpg
WP_20251007_08_59_26_Pro.jpg

there's a 3 ft drop into a stream there and 'Russel', Ex Stock's driver, has no excuses for hitting that .. the 8 wheelers delivering planings never do  or anyone else for that matter -- looks like he had it on the way out. -- summat else to do

yep - apple and plum trees were mental - plums were impressive last year, but surpassed themselves this year ... hawthorns're all RED and huge quantity of sloes too - lorra blackberries but very small
Blackberries best here in August. Never touch them in October. I was always told that you shouldn't pick blackberries in October as the Devil has spat on them! (Just googled it, its okay he only spits on them on the 11th October :) )

first job this morning was go and do a detailed survey of yon grid - that's falling apart :(
WP_20251008_12_57_07_Pro.jpg
WP_20251008_12_57_44_Pro.jpg

to check all the measurements and where all the support rails, etc., are ... having sussed it all and drawn it up - was time for a saw swap -- didn't wanna have to run the genny for hours, when i have the little Utting on single phase with the VFD running it .. so picked the Meba off it's stand
WP_20251008_15_25_37_Pro.jpg
and parked it, the grabbed the Utting
WP_20251008_15_31_33_Pro.jpg

to pop in the Meba's place
WP_20251008_15_32_59_Pro.jpg
WP_20251008_15_34_46_Pro.jpg
WP_20251008_15_34_58_Pro.jpg

and parked the Meba in the Utting's spot
WP_20251008_15_39_06_Pro.jpg

got the magnet out and dropped a bar of 90 x 50 x 5 RHS on the rollers and got everything set up flat/level
WP_20251008_15_46_30_Pro.jpg
WP_20251008_16_02_14_Pro.jpg

dunno what happened to that pic?
WP_20251008_16_32_43_Pro.jpg

rinse and repeat with a.n.other bar of RHS and then slotted the 90 x 12 in next
WP_20251008_16_55_23_Pro.jpg

got enough bits cut to get it set out and set up - lifted them onto the bench with the magnet, two at a time :giggle:
WP_20251008_17_39_52_Pro.jpg
WP_20251008_18_10_16_Pro.jpg

then got another 12 RHS cross bars to cut -- but tea time stopped play and it's getting dark too early now to come back to it, so parked the 'Drema, tidied up the gear, covered the Utting and that's it 'til Friday -- got Harper all day tomorrow and the school runs at 8.45 and 3.15
3m x 2.7m grid's gonna take some putting together on a single 8x4 bench  - done worse though ;)
be nice to have a calm few days to be able to MIG it up

So is that Cattle Grid on your lane? And I bet that stock cost a lot of dosh.
Gonna save a fortune with you doing the fab (y)
Another interesting project for Gra

Talking about Wagons and narrow lanes, when I was driving a grain lorry, it was often a challenge to get to farms with a 44T artic :devilish:
IMG_2806.jpeg

When I saw the blue signs, I knew it would get interesting. On farms that hadn't been to I'd phone the farmer to double check the preferred access. And I'd got the best TomTom LGV Sat Nav, which I sometimes had to ignore. By the time I hung up my LGV Licence, CPC and Driver Card, I knew just about every farm in East Anglia :ROFLMAO:

1420 quid sat there Dave ... 720 for the grid and the rest for me
steel is up round the grand a tonne currently
gotta have it though and damned if I was gonna contribute to some one else nailing it together
and yes - the grid is on our shared part of the drive way

found this for sale a couple of days ago for 650 quid ... I am sorely tempted - looks scruffy, but'd clean up OK -- from memory 26 x 14 inch capacity - 32mm wide blade - cut like an arrow - control panel's missing, but easily build-able and maybe the coolant pump too - power bow lift and built like the rock of Gibraltar -- never seen another s/hand
1760046587945.png

mine was listed at just short of £15k ... IIRC I gave just over £10k for it new (ex-demo off their demonstration truck when they came to demo it :giggle: - was 2 months old - deal (y) - they weren't leaving with it ) .. awesome saw
1760046656532.png

I built a powered, variable speed set of feed rollers for ours -- specially for lumps like this
1760047669278.png

would swing 60 left (deg.s) on a turntable base so the machine's vice swivelled on the centre line of the back edge of the cut - roller feeds etc., never moved - brilliant set up
1760046715070.png

fair trek for it and will be met with the usual " What do you want that for? " ...... however ;):giggle:

You're like the village postmistress that just sets out some milk for a stray 🐈‍⬛
Next thing you know you've 40 strays patrolling the house and you're known as the crazy cat lady. :ROFLMAO:

My old man always drummed into us "A bargain is only a bargain if you need it, otherwise it's your money lining another mans pocket and not making you anything." Thought he was only being tight at the time, but I've come to see the wisdom of his words.

Perhaps Pam's right, do you really need another?

LOL ..... I replaced a Meba with one of these before ... they say history repeats itself ;) ... bit of fettling on the Meba and it'd return close to the asking for the Bauer :giggle: .. no I don't need a.n.other one .. a better one how ever ........:giggle:

Friday totally destroyed -- Vicki had Open reach coming to install fibre, (her day off), Clara had an incept day, Harper doesn't go anywhere on a Friday and it all clashed with her 2 monthly hair cut -- could we 'pop in' and be here for the kids and Openreach - for nine :( .... so that was most of the day shot, by the time we got back at half two gone
these two enjoyed the morning and thoroughly impressed with the young contractor doing the install - fussy as hell about it looking right and being fastidiously tidy - interesting rechargeable fibre welding tool
WP_20251010_10_02_03_Pro.jpg
WP_20251010_10_02_52_Pro.jpg

theses two were equally chilled out by the time we got back
WP_20251010_15_14_20_Pro.jpg

dealt with a couple of emails and calls, bite to eat and then - hit the bench to set out the grid's end plates
WP_20251010_16_50_31_Pro.jpg

usually I'd cut some spacer packers and work bar to bar, but with most of this being in mid air, it's easier to do a careful set out
WP_20251010_16_50_37_Pro.jpg
dimensions worked out a treat with an exact 127 mil spacing  -- spacers come into their own when you're working to an odd dimension like say 126.6 .. that takes some setting out - this was sweet -- 2705mm less 16 x 50mm divided by 15 gaps is bang on 127 mm

was still an hour or so 'fore tea time so decided to set some of it up ...
WP_20251010_17_27_57_Pro.jpg

as said -- 's a big grid for one 8 x 4 bench  and most of it's gonna be 'flying' ... get it consolidated a bit and I'll attach a leg, but 'til then ..... gotta pull a few strokes ;)

WP_20251010_18_24_51_Pro.jpg

left it all clamped up tonight, running out of light fast and'll get some stitches on it tomorrow (hopefully), then cut the rest of it, assemble it all and get it MIG-ed up, wind permitting - nice and calm tonight and supposedly the next few days (y)

got it nailed up, checked the diag.s (y) and time for some more bits
WP_20251011_14_33_29_Pro.jpg

was a bit tight getting the 'Drema out beside the grid :ROFLMAO: - time to cut another dozen cross bars
WP_20251011_14_44_21_Pro.jpg
WP_20251011_15_57_46_Pro.jpg

getting there .......
WP_20251011_15_58_01_Pro.jpg

job did, plus some flat tie bars for under them and stuck the 'Drema back in her spot
WP_20251011_16_39_08_Pro.jpg

and 8 offcuts for stock
WP_20251011_16_40_43_Pro.jpg

de-burred and chamfered .. time to drop some more bits into place ----- getting the cut lengths right is half the battle on summat like this - accuracy = ease of assembly (y)
WP_20251011_16_40_56_Pro.jpg

WP_20251011_17_27_42_Pro.jpg

and suddenly it was tea time and the light was going early tonight - been a dull old day here - but still :giggle::giggle:
WP_20251011_17_57_27_Pro.jpg

got five more to nail in tomorrow, after me hamster juice in the morning ... then it's drop the cross brace flats on it (this is the under side) and start juggling it about to consolidate it all -- could down hand all the verticals, but'd be a lot easier and better penetration with it stood up on the bench and really burn it into those RHS walls :giggle:
Pam couldn't get over how big it looks, compared to the old one .... it had better be 10mm smaller all round, to make sure the bugger goes in the pit without a fight :oops: the pit is not the greatest :(

yeh, but it's the speed, convenience, speed and all positional ability to put it down that's so great -- and the speed :giggle::giggle::giggle: ...
did manage to trap a blobble between my index finger and the trigger though :rolleyes: - a large one - 'kin throbbing tonight :ROFLMAO:
and amazingly it didn't play me up once today - nearly got a brand new MB250 torch out this morning as my usual torch was a tad on the stiff side when I pulled it down off the top of a cupboard ... but it's been faultless all day :giggle:(y) (and it's even softened up a bit with some current through it)
