I've got a refurbished iPad from Back Market which is great if your not obsessed with the latest tech, and also got a phone for the old man, good savings to be made.
LOL - just missed this - posted 'fore i saw it

and no I'm not what you'd call - into the latest tech - all I need is summat that works reliably and consistently

Any chance you can borrow one for a few days?
Mrs G and I bought one each about ten years ago thinking they'd be ideal for a bunch of things.
I know lots of people live on tablets, but we ended up hardly using them.

that's just the sort of feedback I was hoping for @charlie2 (y) what does it have in the way of ports (USB/whatever) for connectivity to ancillaries/HDs/whatever ?? ...
see that one also has 4g, presumably for a sim card?
in the process of sorting my BB over to cellular so presumably could bang the sim in from that if we were off somewhere (or just take the router with us)

I have a kindle fire tablet. Does everything MOST people us an iPad for. Easy to get Google play on it so you are not limited to Amazon apps. Had mine for around 8 years now, original battery and still going strong. They are around the £100 new.

so -- up at 06.00 (should have been 6.30 but Pam ferked up the alarm setting)
🤣
🤣
to be in Hereford for an 8.30 in surgical SDEC. made good time and were at the main reception before it was manned
🙄
🥱
... sent us on a marathon trek to the wrong place
😞
and eventually found it by A&E entrance.
sat me down and did the usual -
BP and obs. = text book 125/79 - 72BPM
😁

took several buckets of blood and fired them off to the haemo lab.

then saw AJ (Mr Abduljabbar) and his clinical nurse practitioner - really nice bloke - Rose used to be in Nevill hall and thought she vaguely remembered me from 2010's 'episode' (rare animal
😁
) - she certainly looked familiar
AJ said they'd put off the ERCP as it's a risky enough procedure without having a 3mm stone lodged in an 8mm duct . .
they only go for it if absolutely necessary and as my bloods/ob.s were all very good, when I blagged my way out on the 11th, they decided to 'suck it and see' -
progress appeared to be good and no recurring issues at home, so 'suck and see' would continue (y)

booked me in for a.n.other MRI in mid Sept/6 weeks and if it's still there then they'll have to do an ERCP - we're both hoping it'll have transited naturally already/by then 🤞🤞- if it hasn't already
if that's all ok they're gonna get me in ASAP/bump me to the top of the queue for keyhole cholecytechtomy  not really what I'd 'vote for' but .... hopefully life'd be better without it

AJ said I'm either lucky, or a tough old sod - acute pancreatitis can kill 1 in 5 ppl :oops:... and my odds are getting shorter by the bout :( - I don't need another one - and highly recommends losing the gall bladder - has spoken with Duncan Cole in Cardiff who now says it SHOULD have no effects on the efficacy of my ERT treatments - I NEED a conversation with him too, to explain his change of attitude, to me, before I next go to Hereford.

AJ says it shouldn't make much difference to me, as I already have a diet to compensate for the gall stones .. and made him laugh with his "any other questions I can answer for you ", reply

" will I be able to swim after the op? "

" yes - no problem with that "

to which I replied " well that's great, 'cos I can't swim a bloody stroke at the moment " :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Pam said she could hear the laughter in the waiting room and wondered WTF was going on :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

so ---- see what the MRI says in 6 weeks and go from there - assuming I DO NOT end up in A&E again before that - Pam's now paranoid about me doing anything - but feeling better daily still .. actually felt quite normal going to bed last night - little iffy this evening, but it's been a looong day
oh - and when we went back for the blood results at 11.00, Rose showed me them all on screen and went through them all - basically text book.(y)
amylase was around 30 :giggle: (was over 3000 when I was admitted on the 6th) and everything else was "perfick":cool: - tough ol' bast**d :giggle::LOL: ... still 'retraining' the appetite/digestive system though :giggle: just had a Morrison's chick tik mas for tea - yum yum - really fancied it - 's a case of what I fancy at the moment
took the tins of sweeties and some nice boxes of biccies up to the ward I was on, for the staff and a thank you card - they were well chuffed - and we were away by half eleven :giggle:

then let Pam loose in M&S for an hour  - three tops, two pairs of shorts and some cotton/linen troos later - retail therapy part 1 done(y)
wanted some more tops from Primark, like she'd gotten down in Plymouth, but they didn't have any :( - RT part 2 unsuccessful  - sarnie and a drink from a little bakery which actually had GF loaves and made her what she wanted and we were home by three - absolutely tatered :giggle: -- been asleep 'til tea time.

think I am gonna go for one of these and see how I get on with it - but first - does anyone know if these have an SD card slot for additional storage/transfer of files, etc. ?

iPads don’t have anything like that as far as I’m aware - they have their unique charge/download port and some also have a SIM card slot. They work ‘on the cloud’ exceptionally well (but I can understand hang-ups around that)…

won't use it :censored::censored:
so how would one add additional storage, if needed ?
I can access a lot of my pix on 'Bucket, on line, but everything else is kept in house, on HDs including a huge pic archive, etc.!!

see their connection is via a 'lightning cable', which presumably with a suitable plug/skt, t'other end, could connect to an HD/stick/etc.??

App is just short for application, little bits of software or firmware that can make life easier. Like a Calendar app for keeping appointments or geometry app for working out angles and curves and areas and such, I use apps like pipefitter calculator for working out cut sizes for pipework that's on a dynamic angle or working out what angle to cut the bend to get the desired offset. Can be done the old fashioned way but it just saves time and makes sense to utilise it.

Or here in France, as they have to be different, it's called an appli ....... I wonder why 🤔.

My kindle takes an SD card for memory expansion or to transfer files. No option for a SIM card though, only Wi-Fi. Also no dedicated USB port. However it's easy enough to connect to a PC to manage files (USB C to USB cable, the same port as for charging).

I have an iphone, but I find Android much more user friendly for file management. Sideloading of books and music is as simple as copy and paste.

That's a good shout! If the iPad will not run IOS 16 or above ( the operating system like Windows ), then many apps no longer work. My IPhone 7 is obsolete, but it works just fine😡. I now have to use Google Chrome to access the likes of eBay, it's a PITA.

mine does not have a sim card or even a slot for one, the only cable i use is the apple charger cable, mostly i guess it connects through bluetooth to the wireless modem, i can download stuff straight to it so presumably i could send stuff as well there is a attach files tab i could use, i am no expert on how it all works mainly self taught, this post is from my i pad i normally just use desktop for planttalk.
