band saw saw a bit of action today .....first job was 68 mm of seamless ;)

WP_20190803_13_01_11_Pro.jpg

suds refused to pump ... and could not be arsed to pull the pipes off to prime it

opened the bore out to 18 .5 mm ....

WP_20190803_13_13_27_Pro.jpg

then reamed it out to 3/4" .....I know i took a pic ... but weren't on't phone this evening when I down loaded em all :confused:
neither was the 7/8" cutter counter-boring it out to take the hardened 'top hat' boss, that was left in one piece in the pix yesterday, holding the oil seal in the output casing ??

trimmed it down to 67.5 mm ... as per requirement ...

WP_20190803_13_53_01_Pro.jpg

and got a pic of the finished article .......... which has also disappeared ?????? FFS :(

Pressed the top hat boss into the new bush ...

WP_20190803_14_19_37_Pro.jpg

and pressed them into the stub carrier ....

WP_20190803_14_33_33_Pro.jpg

WP_20190803_14_33_41_Pro.jpg

sweet fit and went together real nice ...

WP_20190803_14_34_38_Pro.jpg

sussed a location for a grease nipple and stuck it back in the Ajax ...

WP_20190803_14_57_08_Pro.jpg

centre drilled it, 4.5 mm for a grease port and then 10.4 mm for a 3/8" x 28 tap (BSG / 1/8" BSP) for a nipple

WP_20190803_15_50_39_Pro.jpg

WP_20190803_15_54_33_Pro.jpg

bugger!! out of pix again :(

that ought to extend its life a bit ;)

WP_20190803_17_13_44_Pro.jpg

would've put it all back together, but waiting for some brake pads for it ... what's in the caliper is way beyond serviceable ... and explains the shortage of brakes, last time I used it  :ROFLMAO: .. much easier to do on the bench than grovelling under the back frame. It'll wait, 'til they arrive

so while I had the band saw plugged in .....

WP_20190803_16_09_03_Pro.jpg

thought I'd chop a few more of these .......

WP_20190803_17_14_02_Pro.jpg

got eight sat and needed another eight for all the various things that need boss-ing up

need to find me a bigger 3 jaw chuck:( .... as per usual - used to have a couple of suitable candidates ... which went in the workshop clear out  .... couldn't keep it all -- wasn't allowed
can bore them out to the required 70.2 mm then
need summat that'll take a 100 mm comfortably  ..... 'least they'm sat with t'others now, ready :)

Genny has been good to me ...

WP_20190803_17_44_36_Pro.jpg

all displays as they should be and did @Grahams a vid for his acoustic delight .. to show just how quiet a 'silent-pak' can be :)

genny behaved all day with one exception :) .... kick off :(... did not wanna play ..... earths off the starter - post filed back to bare, shiny stuff, as were the copper terminals and all dogged up ... went first flick (y):giggle: and behaved for the rest of the day ... must remember to vaseline it all tomorrow .... keep the old verdigris at bay, 'til next time ..... and beyond ;):giggle:

Druid,

If you are interested I think I may have an old 12” 3 jaw chuck spare. Give me a few days to dig it out and decide if I can bring myself to part with it.

That property looks lovely, but a bit far away from work for me for the time being ;)

Plus then the missus would go nuts and we'd have a bloody smallholding in no time.

Druid,

This is the beastie I have. It’s been in a storage barn so has plenty of surface rust but is not badly worn so will clean up ok. Don’t have a key for it but for a man of your talents that’s a good excuse to play on the new mill for a few mins to make one. Only have the jaws that are in it.

If you are interested please PM me an offer that is so generous I just can’t refuse 😀😀

By the way it’s in Sheffield but my job that had me traveling through your part of the world is finished now. Maybe we can work out delivery via the ‘Planttalk pass it from one member to another’ delivery chain cos it’s kin heavy.

now that is a beastie  @Rob65 .... any idea what it weighs?
used to use a carrier that'd do 30 kgs and under for a tenner :giggle: and were real good too ...
were great for wheels and tyres ...
had a fair few delivered for the disco, when i was trying to source a new set of 'no longer available' tread pattern Avons .
most disco doors had a brand new one sat on 'em ;) .. usually under a cover

Just looked and still doing it :giggle: ... £10-85 inc. for 30kgs (y) ..... my parcel delivery ;) .... same with parcel2go £11.87 :)

I’m in Manchester quite often so it may be possible for the planets to come into alignment.

I’m out all day tomorrow but will try and put the chuck on the bathroom scales on Thursday.

Out of interest if you take the chuck as being a solid disc 300mm dia x 90mm thick it calculates as being 50kg. It’s not actually solid but I would wager it’s nearer 50kg than 30kg so i suspect the couriers will not want to handle it.

Druid,

This looks very similar to mine. eBay 143128908541 It’s a D type fixing and mine is a 3 bolt but looks the same otherwise. Weight is quoted as 46kg in the description.

In the knowledge that it’s going to a good home I’d take £100. That would save it from a long period of suffering getting more rusty in my barn until I do something with it.

My dad lives near J15 of the M5 and I might be visiting in a few weeks if you want to go ahead with this and a quick meet up around that area would work for you.

funnily enough I saw them a few months ago and added 'em to me watch list .... they look very good and have several size options in their range :)
seem well made and priced accordingly .... have used the old magnetic clamp blocks and are quite handy ... these'd be in a different league I'd guess, but as Aiden says .... by their nature they're particle magnets ... it'll brush off though
