dread to think what a mess the Dane's gonna make on the other side ...... might find out tomorrow

grass got hit again yesterday morning ... can not believe the speed at which it is currently growing, considering it's not seen rain in a while, now
WP_20230530_19_49_48_Pro.jpg
WP_20230530_19_48_33_Pro.jpg

pam had a surprise whilst sorting one of her veggie boxes ......
WP_20230530_12_20_19_Pro.jpg

one of the many pheasants that wander about the place, here had obviously decided it was a good place to nest ..... looked like a rat had had most of 'em .. clutch of eleven eggs - two left intact

last time I moved the Thwaites it sprang a leak in the steering dept. .....
as I'm likely to be heading out to Simon's brother's place in the near future, Raglan way ..
he's got me some new 45 gal. barrels, for burning bins - me old one is all but burgered, thought I'd better get the bolloed hose off and call into Fastfluids, the guys I use for pipes, etc. and get one made up, along with some 1/4" hoses for the Haner on lil' Jake
I've had the floor/footplate off it once before for a hose replacement job, but a considerable time ago ... was a hard fought battle with its securing bolts this time and new ones will be taking their stead
the gear lever, which clamps to a short stub stick, coming out the box, was a different matter ... 12.9 bolt through it clamping the stick - snapped the head off that, nut undid, but damned if I could shift the shank out of its hole, which is effectively a cotter in the clamp too .. had it moving on the stub stick, but could not get that cotter bolt out ...
so only one choice ..
WP_20230530_17_13_58_Pro.jpg

marked it first for re-alignment, once I get the remnants off the stub stick
WP_20230530_17_14_11_Pro.jpg

very annoying, but needs must .... footplate will not lift off without the stick removed, to give a clear tilt back for the plate
WP_20230530_17_22_03_Pro.jpg

then spent an hour with the airline, blasting all the years of accumulated crud from virtually everywhere under there
would like to meet the tosser who's been at the wiring, prior to my ownership .... it really isn't hard to do a decent job:mad:
damned if I can see where the oil spray was coming from, but was doing at as steering, so has to be one of the pipes to/from the ram .. both looking ropey, so could well be a pair job.
was going to have them off today, in readiness for a Raglan foray, but the kids've been here for several hours.
Mañana job  ... but might just run it up first to see exactly where the olio is coming from

23C here yesterday, sweating in the sunshine, in shirtsleeves ... 13C today, back to a fleece with overcast skies and a cold N. Easterly, blowing hard :( not looking much better tomorrow either

on a bit of a topical note ...... The Kia had its first run this morning with this.....
WP_20230601_11_46_33_Pro.jpg
in tow ...
as discussed in a.n.other thread ..
made damned sure it was well attached after taking LL's advice to make sure the removable hitch was well and truly locked into position. Bradley double lock on ollie's old 2584 and i even put a bolt and lock nut through the locking hole to be sure ... didn't want it running up the arse of the new chariot.
Was impressed by how well it towed it up the drive ..
didn't know it was there ..
no idea what that trailer weighs, but guessing half a ton?
will string it up on the dynamometer, next time have the 'Drema running.
Anyway trolled off down to Vicki's to pick up me ladders, old boiler and a few old rad.s and various other junk
WP_20230601_13_10_21_Pro.jpg

managed to put the sack truck wheel through this loading the boiler ...
WP_20230601_14_04_39_Pro.jpg

anyone ever taken one of these apart to replace the floor ..
WP_20230601_19_10_43_Pro.jpg

it looks to be held in by the sides  which're gonna take some removing, looking at the bolts .. could be a thin disc job ... basically a complete strip to bare chassis BTLs :( .. get a board first, in readiness
anyway... ladders stashed back where they live and the rest of the crud stowed away out the way ... cleaned all the leaves up from under where it was parked and backed it back into spot ... surprised that it's invisible behind the Kia, or it's mirrors ... 's a surprisingly wide vehicle.
while in a tidying mode i dragged the 10 x 5 trailer out, to clear under that ... that's full of four tower scaffs and surprised the Kia pulling it out of the depressions the wheels had created -- had to have a second go at that :oops::LOL:

got these off the Thwaites this afters,
WP_20230601_19_04_22_Pro.jpg

in anticipation of a trip to Raglan, hopefully tomorrow for some new ones and pick up some new burning bin drums ..... me bin's on it's very last legs and collapsing with all the garden rubbish it's getting put through it recently.
found the offending 'leak' ....
WP_20230601_19_04_27_Pro.jpg

and measured up what's needed ..
WP_20230601_19_04_39_Pro.jpg

now it's time to go set fire to said bin ... 's gonna smoke with all the garden crud sat in it (and maybe a few pints of old engine oil to get it going well ;):giggle:)

I defy you to make those ladders more secure with a couple of rat shits than they were with my ropes LL ... had a rat s**t round the boiler as was easiest solution ...... I have about 10, 5t sets (and various other sets) of rat shits and only use them as the job requires
as for the plate - both vehicles registered, taxed and insured in my name - officer :giggle: ... haven't gotten around to getting some plates made up for the Kia yet

I was told You’re better off with no plate vs wrong plate even if both vehicles registered same person etc

Looks like an older version of my IW gd84. Will the floor not slide out the back once you’ve removed the fixings, and maybe tailgate/ramp?

You know how chancy you look with that N.Ireland reg on that trailer? You just know you'll have 4 ton in it a some stage 🤣🤣
I've had that plate as long as I've had the P38 ... wanted a MIL reg. but couldn't find one at the time

Probably an urban myth, but I was under the impression that I didn't have to change plates on a trailer when swapping between tractors, so long as the plate that was on the trailer was from a vehicle registered to me.

Agri rules on number plates on trailers are different to all others,

The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 section 8

(3) Where the towing vehicle is an agricultural machine, a plate fixed on the trailer may, instead of displaying the registration mark of the towing vehicle, display the mark of any other agricultural machine kept by the keeper of the towing vehicle.

Ah right, so if I swap a trailer between a Agri registered quad and a tractor all ok, but not ok to swap between a quad and a truck without swapping plates.
