had a lovely Saturday last weekend and yon grass'd grown a good 2" so dragged the Countax out, 'fore the kids arrived after lunch ... drive felt a bit odd, but sod it - eyeball it later.
managed a circuit 'fore it was more than just odd ... no reverse and fwd was struggling ... stuck me head under it and the control bar didn't look too well, so high tailed it up to a box -- while I could, under its own steam ... long, uphill push, otherwise.
was not gonna be an easy fix ... 'least getting at the offending bit wasn't gonna be ... nothing is easy to get at on this.
whipped the collector and box off, to stand any chance ..
bracket on the end of this control rod (made out of something akin to thick card) had given up the unending struggle with long lever and succumbed
by the time I'd managed to wangle my maulers into the space, together with a couple of 13mils and persuaded the two thankfully sensibly length-ed S/L nuts an' bolts out, Clara is stood beside me ...
"have you broken the mower grand dad"
" No lovely - it managed it all on its own " ... she thought that was quite funny
...... so that was the end of play for an hour or two
eventually got back to it a few hours later .... dragged the Caddy out and the last couple of 1.6 mil rods I had left and ...
before wrestling the damned thing back in, together with its primitive but effective friction loader
link rod back onto that, to the hydrastat box, wrestle the collector and box back on - clever but a PITA set up to connect, drive belt and I was in business - again
got the lawn done and then the sides of the drive ... just in time for tea
fruit trees in full blossom ... great for the hay fever ... as was the silver birch's dangling branches

so... fast forward to this morning and it's pretty white here with some glorious sun to follow .... everything's pretty dried out by twelve ..... so ... groundhog day
at least I didn't have to grovel under the Countax for a couple of hours first .....
did have to pull my guts out on the bloody Mountfield, for all the pissy bits though -
not had it since last year and wasn't going to, I concluded after about 40 odd pulls ..
I was knackered ...
filter off and fetch the carb cleaner ....
quick snort, three more tugs and it was roaring ....
should've done it 30 odd pulls earlier

completely burgered after wrestling that round all the piddly bits.......
have said it before

.. but ...
I am getting old

.....
and it's bloody frustrating
