yep ... talked about it for years, but after my second pancreatitis 'incident' in Jan. '20 at the hands of the 'medics', it became an imperative, as far as I was concerned, to 'firewall' my estate, from the bloodsuckers, for her.
a routine scan turned into a life threatening situation and even after 21 years together, Pam had no real legal standing, if I hadn't come home (which was a real possibility for a while) and would've left a right s**t-pool to sort.
Booked it, as soon as I'd recovered enough, for early March and lock-down two days 'fore 'the event' knackered that ...
had to wait then 'til July.
Were the first they'd done since March's lock-down and the first civil partnership they'd done ..
was a bit strange, as only allowed two witnesses and they turned a 'blind eye' to Clara, but was sorted

I don't plan on marrying Helen, but have ensured that she is provided for in terms of a trust for the house and so on. Should really sort some life insurance to cover the inheritance tax though.

Just dealing with IHT on my dad’s ‘estate’ - he divorced my mum years ago and was with his current partner for 20+ years prior to his death. Legally she has no standing and we have to give the tax man 40% (less a bit) of everything he spent his life working for. It’s a bloody nightmare tbh!

it's a bloody disgrace isn't it
... taxed from the day you can earn right into your grave ... even if he left it all to his current partner, anything over the £325k PA is 40% ... 's why we went with the civil partnership .. No IHT and when Pam goes double the allowance (£650k) for the kids plus, IIRC, another £100-ish K kids allowance ... can't recall the exact details without looking.

.....I was 19 and had a candy orange DT175 Yammy ...
my Mk1 1500 GT Cortina didn't get used a lot for months, except by my mother, who had an annoying habit of pulling the long stick change out the top of the box, going for reverse, whenever she borrowed it .

did a couple of hours strimming round the edges yesterday and was wrecked for the rest of the day

We are hearing of lots of friends that have Covid like symptoms but not testing positive. It could easily be possible that the current strain is not showing up on the tests for the original strain. Hopefully a speedy recovery from whatever it is.

The Cortina was 'slightly modified'. Started off as a basic 1200 until I dropped a 1500 lump in it
Ambassador Blue with Ermine White stripes added to sides and bonnet by me a la Lotus Cortina style
We had that old car for years. We was skint doing up our first house which cost £7000 and two young girls to bring up properly

...been 'sort of' wiped out/no go in me for days and ropey. Always got various aches/pains, so can be difficult to isolate anything 'new' ...
but deffo not myself ATM

rebuilt the motor when I had it, with a holed piston ...
set of corded ring Hepolites, head job, new shells and cam & bearings ...
went like hell, (for its day) and the old man was always pushing me, whenever he was in it with me
...replaced it with a 1300 Mk1 Escort van, before I went off to Redland teacher training college in late September -- needed the carrying capacity
