My Makita disc cutter has given up the ghost, I’m not moaning it was 2nd hand circa 6 years ago and has, as was the previous Makita, been a good saw. Now the sensible thing is probably just go and buy another the same. I won’t entertain another make of petrol saw.
I am wondering though wether now is the time to switch to a battery one, I know it won’t be in the same league as far as performance goes but for what I actually use a disc cutter for will it be good enough? Sure if the saws in the van it’s used for all kinds but we do groundworks, the only time it’s pushed hard is when we’re doing what we should be using a floor saw for. Other than that is cutting the odd flag, manhole ring, pipe or mesh.
Ive also a breaker that’s ready for upgrade, again it occasional use, breaking into manholes and stuff, anything more than 20mins and I’m going for the mini digger breaker. Again anyone got any experience?
Any preferable makes? I’m a bit of a dewalt fan boy, have boots, pants etc, not because I’m that type of person but because I’ve never bought anything dewalt have put their name too and it not been good quality. For me it’s easier to buy something with a dewalt sticker on as I know it will do what I want and I don’t have to waste my time trying to swap about. That said because at the time dewalt didn’t do a cordless ratchet I’ve got some 12v milwaukee stuff and it’s good stuff, the 3/8 impact wrench is now the first thing I pick up in the workshop for anything under m16, it’s got some serious power and I find it nice to use.
I know changing brands means different batteries but ive currently no 54v dewalt stuff so I’d be buying batteries anyway. Dewalt are bringing a cordless Wacker out later in the year but that’s a different battery again
Whats everyone think? Has anyone tried battery stuff? Or shall I just be the forum guinea pig and try it so everyone else doesn’t have to
