The biggest problem with battery grinders in my opinion isn't actually the battery....
Its the cutting depth!
The battery ones are lovely to use for cutting paving, no engine noise idling away while you measure the next cut, blade stops when you let go of the trigger too so a bit safer to be around and they are much lighter to use. Battery life isn't great, I've tried the Sthil one, Hilti one with two batteries, Makita one - not one is significantly better than the other really.
But for groundwork, I think its still tough to beat a petrol saw when the job requires cutting 4"+ somewhere with no power. And as you say, can act as a floor saw when needed too.

What I suspect you'll end up doing here is buying a battery grinder that stays on the van all the time for 80% of your work, and buying a new petrol saw to replace your existing dead one for when the cutting depth just isn't enough.

In an ideal world I think I’d have one of each, battery for every day odds and end and a petrol for heavy stuff.
Problem is I think we’re just at the beginning of battery technology and ice has been being refined for over a century 🤔

i wonder how bad one of these is
I've got a pressure washer had a few issues I'd go 1 of the main brands. Still like the 300mm evolution saw so nice pulling the trigger and away you go, but not so good if your jobs have no power

This☝️...but tbf my DeWalt does 85mm with 230mm blade where as some 300mm do 100mm iirc. So not that bad.
My verdict having run 54v DeWalt for few years is have ts510r for big jobs long cuts ...DeWalt will do the rest. And yes I think it's better than the Milwaukee even though pains me to say it😳🤪🤪
But I'd hazard a guess dewalt are due for an overhaul so expect 54v 300mm before long..maybe even twin battery..

I’m not completely decided tbh, the times I need to run a 300mm saw full depth are rare, if we’re cutting for a trench the floor saw is much more pleasant to use 🤷🏻‍♂️

a 300mm cordless is a lot of money, wouldn’t be so bad if there where some battery cross over, if the same battery would run saw, breaker, wacker and cement mixer I’d probably jump in with both feet. There’s nothing better than stuff that’s quiet
Exactly how I feel about it, maybe in another few years the choice will be more easy.

Mak one is 300mm ... other is 230mm ... need to compare like for like Ste and additional batteries are 200 quid a pop, so need two to run it and two on charge (and a second charger)

The design of the electric saws means they usually get the same depth of cut from a 9in as a petrol 12in sometimes more

I use my dewalt 54v 5” and 9“ cut off for most stuff so easy light and agile then have ts410 or ts420 for the serious stuff all day cutting or out in middle of no where but got 12 9ah flex volts batteries now so can keep going a while, eyeing up the 7-9” flex volt grinder for raking out mortar joints.

Where about are you as I’ve 2 x ts400 and 2 x410’s i dont really use that all run well just not got round to getting rid of them yet.

just been looking at the Hyundai range of battery tools on that site and they look remarkably like the Ferrex stuff from Aldi ..... including the battery set up .. 5" grinder is a dead ringer, 'cept for the colour and the jig saw and the recip saw ..... looks like they may well have been making for Aldi ..... or Aldi found their manufacturers

250% more than the price of the ferrex stuff though :(
waited and waited for them to re-stock on their 40v chainsaws and their 40v little circulars and never did :cry: .. the recip saw is brilliant and the jig saw ... the grinders have been superb .. in fact it's all been good and battery life is amazing (y)
