Amazes me why people like ivy on their buildings
House we're in now when parents bought it back in 2000 had damp issues. Not helped by the ivy growing up the gable end and the downspouts being about 1m away from being under the spouts, ivy was growing in through windows upstairs and right across rooms inside. I'm not a fan of anything growing on buildings.

or that Virginia creeper ... put my little Rapier crane and man basket in a court yard in a pub in Monmouth years ago, for what they thought'd be a 2 day job to remove ... took 'em well over a week to get the bugger off the building ... can't recall the pub's name, or why they didn't use a MEWP other than perhaps the slope of the courtyard? ... was a beast of a creeper - chainsaw job in places

Completely agree, that particular building was just through neglect that the ivy had grown which given its location is unbelievable that it’s been let sit like that. We also knocked a big house a couple of months back that was covered in ivy and there was uproar from neighbors etc…. House was red rotten when we gutted it and clearly caused by damp from ivy. Might look nice but someone else can deal with the damage 😬

It was, had a big extension on the back and was used for air b&b. The ivy had window frames in s**t, and serious damp everywhere…. The amount of paint cans left behind they were obviously constantly repainting for it to just bubble up again. One of the neighbors (nut job) called the police on us one day on that job, claimed we smashed windows in her house from the hammering and the house was falling down, our vibration monitors hadn’t even gone off on the boundary wall closest to her, anyway first words out of the police man’s mouth was I’ve come across you before - never a good sign 😂, turns out he was the same lad who came out to us dealing with another nut on a different job last year, never a dull moment in Dublin 😂

Yes I know a few guys who have made the jump from the UAE to Saudi over the past couple of years there is an incredible amount of work on there at the moment and some really interesting projects too

Not that anyone gives a ff but I'd hazard a guess that the gear to build that will emit more than the UK total combined 😂😂

Well, as mentioned elsewhere I have somewhat unexpectedly ended up back in the desert. I've been brought over to look after the demolition of a 15000 seat sports arena that was about 80% complete when the project was stopped about 6 years ago and to clear the site. The company have invested in a lot of new plant for the job (some of which hasn't yet arrived) and we have worked hard to get them to what would be considered a decent spec at home but for here lightyears ahead of the competition. The photos really don't do the job justice it looks twice as big in person, we have been doing site setup the past 2 weeks and will start demolishing the smaller utility building on Monday.

How can you spend £££ building somthing, stop, then demolish it, such a waste of materials. Let alone the time/effort in doing it.

I'm far far from green but things like that is a total waste.
