Thought I’d share a few bits of what I am up to over here in Dubai. Been here the best part of 5 years now, first 2 years working for a demolition company, then just over 2 and a half with a Civils company doing earthworks and roadworks and just recently have gone back to the same demolition company as operations manager.

Yes Mog handy bits of kit, not cheap to buy though the husqvarna is a lot less than brokk equivalent. Here’s a picture of one of the husqvarnas on a job we’re doing. 54 openings over 13 floors couldn’t get the mini crane in so got the plate and machine tested to lift up to 700kg. So cut slab into blocks and lift out with the machine then into the roll on skip and away to landfill. Much quicker than using block and tackle. Consultant wouldn’t allow us to cut and break the slab in place.

Are they hot on health and safety over there? It looks it from your pics, which isn’t as I’d have expected tbh.

Yes very big on safety on most projects, had 22 men sent away from a job this morning refused to induct them because they had yellow helmets instead of blue 😑 can’t piss without the right permit. Mind you still a hell of a lot of accidents but once paperwork’s in order it’s alright I suppose 🤨

Not posted anything in a long while so thought I’d give a bit of an update, we just finished a challenging job in one of the most high profile areas in Dubai. Demolishing a well known bar/restaurant at the end of a breakwater, then demolish the concrete structure of the breakwater which was over a kilometer in length between 2 breakwaters, all done and dusted within a month which was no mean feat due to the absolute nightmare for access. 25788C0E-1DBE-45F4-8594-EECA7F3B22CD.jpegC4137133-FB01-4453-B054-B411FD7BAC37.jpeg5C62C26B-3947-415B-B027-D582EB2E929D.jpeg

What was the reason for demolishing it?
This was a marina for private yachts for a very well known 5 star hotel, the marina is being demolished and backfilled for a new hotel to be built on the newly created land and another marina will be built further out with private beach etc. all crazy stuff but it pays the wages so won’t complain 😂

always interested to see what you're up to Boyo ;):)

Thanks Grah, the pictures will be a lot less sunny and a lot less interesting probably in the next 4 months. With our wedding in August and a few other opportunities on the cards we’ve decided after almost 6 unplanned and exciting years to call it a day on the Dubai adventure and move back home to Ireland. 2 dogs had to make the journey home last week and we will follow in early July.

Big decision to make id imagine, will you stick to the plant game when you return? iirc you have some machines stored up while you were working away

So far so good, pleasantly surprised how smoothly the move went and how they settled in, hopefully our move goes as well 😂

Yeah plan is to set up on my own, have most of the gear ready to go, just need some work to do 😬 have a few nice bits in the pipeline, so if they fall into place should be off to a good start 🤞🏻

Some big toys 😬 this company has an unbelievable fleet of gear, up to 200 ton long reaches. They hire a lot to marine contractors but also are involved in quarrying, and civil contracting they have one hell of a workshop.the 1st pic you can just see a d6h at the back of a 1250 Komatsu to put some scale on it 97CDEE41-6429-488F-AC3E-11434522F23E.jpegC0BC01CB-6E01-4183-AFF4-1B1985DACED0.jpegBB1760F9-3312-4464-81EA-1E34E0D0F026.jpeg749E5B53-F555-4A46-BE5D-8C8A6D2C8F17.jpeg27338583-7847-4137-A76F-220389F797B6.jpeg158F6FC6-1748-4DB9-B35F-021D13A8A65B.jpeg6985090B-D601-400D-BE08-136F49A32C10.jpeg

Having the 50t infront certainly shows just how big they are. My initial looking at the picture I thought it was a 13t.
I've hired a 22m before and I thought that was huge. What sort of reach are you talking on that?
