on my engcon you couldn't take it off and it was amazingly useful. Definitely wouldn't have a tilty without one.
What does top hitch - S40 and à gripper and gradins bucket weigh ?

didnt have a top hitch too much build height on a 3 tonner. with full engcon grading bucket over the side you knew it was there all right!

Rototilt R1 approx 110kg, RG400 gripper 36kg. S40 top hitch (one of our T-LOCK ones) 35kg.
Hurricane TB3 1m grading bucket is 85kg from memory.
All up about 265kg.

Worth noting, I have been out to a 2.6ton machine today with a standard hydraulic hitch, that has got to be approx 50kg! And a horrible build height. And a standard grader is approx the same weight.
So all in all yes its heavier, but its not an extra 265kg if that makes sense.

Wow......
Reading through this thread is quite disappointing at the level of misinformation, assumptions and opinions rather than facts coming from people who should know, and are better than that. So many setups, so many options, but I can guarantee if you speak to end users, ideally with the machine you have/ want to install it on, they will give you the best and honest feedback.

In this instance the 8026 is already heavy and so weight is THE critical factor if you want to tow it. Some might have a lorry to transport it around on and therefore their options are more open and IMHO the 8026 would run an S40 setup no problem if you were careful with your bucket sizing (not width, I mean volume, S40 buckets can be a lot bigger in this regard as it covers a large weight range) I actually run larger S30 buckets on mine no problem so I am confident in this.

Out of interest the EC02 with top hitch and bigger 1m wide GB02 grader is 167kg (my setup). My original spring quick hitch weighed 38kg and the grader was 80kg. So I've only actually gained 49kg over the original setup. Its actually lighter than my old tilting bucket. These are facts not opinions.

It would be lovely to run a gripper but the jump to S40, plus gripper, bigger hitch, bigger build height etc is too much of a compromise and simply put - too heavy to tow with an 8026 at least.

As for a price for one, you wont be messed about by Neil at @Nasco, he knows the 8026 and has done several installs on one now. He has also consistently been cheaper than going to Engcon direct. Again I know this - people send me their like for like quotes! You can built a Rototilt to be a similar weight, but they aren't as compact - 325mm vs 245mm build height. And their buckets are 10% (or more!) heavier than the equivalent Engcon ones so be careful there. It all adds up! I spent a lot of time researching for mine and its not easy to navigate the minefield - especially on these smaller machines.

And just so you know, its great in the sandpit. My bank balance reflects this fact 😉

Thanks for the vote of confidence Ollie 👍

Is anyone interested in a gripper for a Rototilt R1 ? (very little use) Almost three years ago when i ordered the R1 i'd watched to many videos of larger machines using them and was convinced i needed one but as @Gunners says weight is all important if you are towing, the zero tail swing ECR25 Volvo was to Noddy with the s40 R1 even without the gripper, with the gripper i think it ideally needs to be on a 3.5 ton machine if its zerotailswing, but that's just my opinion.
I recently changed it for a EC27Volvo ,which is probably the machine i would have gone for to start with if Volvo's spec sheets weren't so misleading regarding operating weights, the extra 300mm of tailswing makes all the difference and i think it would handle the gripper ok but i now have a grab from @CPS .
I'd agree with gunners its a bit of a minefield and with the benefit of hindsight i should have gone with s30 and maybe a Yellow one ? but at the time Rototilt were signing up a service engineer very local to me (which didn't happen)and i hadn't met Neil @Nasco and although it is bit heavier the R1 has done almost 2000hrs trouble free hours now so maybe being slightly over spec is not such a bad thing.
One thing I'm sure of is the more people like Ollie that are prepared to share information the easier things will become and the Tiltrotator market will continue to grow in the UK.

100% agree with this.
I bought my first tilty in 2016 and the lack of information available and knowledge forthcoming from both dealers and the UK suppliers was incredible tbh. I would definitely have ended up spending a lot of money on the wrong setup for my needs had I listened to those doing the selling!
I got the bulk of the info I ended up using to make my purchasing decisions from LGPEddie’s excellent Wideboy thread on the old forum - that was an incredibly helpful source of info and it’s a shame that he doesn’t seem to post much anymore. I don’t know if that is still available to view online but if so I’d say it makes essential reading for anyone considering going down this route themselves.

just to be clear you can have an S40 with grab on a 3 tonner kubota and legally tow it.

The Kubota U27 and KX27 are less than 2.6t Gra. So is the Volvo ECR25D. All around the 2.5-2.6t mark. But that doesn't help them handle an S40 setup though.... And the conversation was in reference to Brendan's 8026 which is much heavier.

None of those you mention are 3 tonners

Like most things in life its about finding the right compromise  (without spending to much money along the way)??
