Even worse than that are the jobs worth's that throw money at stupid things. My sister, I think I've mentioned before, works in a hospital heading up a ward and between her and the other ward manager they decided it would benefit the ward if there was a sink it a room at one end of the ward, there was no sinks near by for hand washing and or other sink duties and the plumbing was there for such to be installed, they got a local plumber who has done lots of work in the hospital before to come and set it up, also did a little unit thing for the sink,at a Cost of £4,500. Or there abouts. Then . A few months later someone within the hospital management team noticed this sink wasn't on the asset register and enquiries were made and the situation was explained. This was put further up the management tree and the sink was put out of use until a feasibility report was completed. Duly it was decided that a sink was required there and they would do it properly. Tenders were put out to upgrade this to a substantial setup that everyone in the ward thought was over kill but it went ahead, the local plumber didn't have a look in some company from far and wide appeared in and did the work. A few months later someone up high made a decision one day that room should be a store room only and it was all ripped out the next week. Now they are back to square one with no sink near by and the whole lot cost them £135kwho can sustain that kind of logic!
Recently done a job for the local ambulance service
London based company awarded contract i highly doubt they ever done a site visit
Subbed the job to shop fitting company ( localish ) who works nationwide
They then subbed the job to me.
It seems to me once youve jumped through the hoops and done all the tenders through the portals they prefer to keep giving the jobs to same contractors as to much paper work to use someone direct.

I do a lot of work for a LA, and I can assure you we don't get to see how far you can push your rates, in fact the rates are less than what they are for anyone else.

A lot of big companies and government organisations stipulate you sign up to their favorite portal as a means of having no risk or blame attached to them if there is an issue. They don't care if the job costs extra (expecially the government organisations as they are spending our money rather than theirs) as long as they can claim the glory if a project goes well, but slope off blame to the portal for not checking firms out enough if it goes wrong. So in turn the portals want paperwork to cover every imaginable eventuality to cover themselves.
No-one seems big enough to accept any responsiblilty, but I guess as an employee of a big outfit there is no need and middle management don't have any actual decision making authority these days anyway.

The politicians and media want to take a serious look at how they are behaving during this. At the end of the day its not a time to pick sides it's about doing what's best for the country and it's people. It's not about how you voted at the minute. It's like the whole dragged out brexit carry on once the country voted to leave that should be what they all worked on, not still fighting over staying in. It's very easy to say coronavirus isn't being handled well enough but nobody's ever seen anything like this before so how does anyone know how to deal with it. Ultimately whatever government decides to do its gonna be down to the people in the end.

I've just listened to Cumming's interview and he did what a lot of reasonable people would have done - put his four year old child first. But most of the hysteria is not about his actions but about hatred for him, Boris and Brexit. You only have to see how some in our impartial civil service tweet to know we need someone to give the government some backbone and it isn't going to be any of the senior politicians.

You could argue he went to somewhere where his family could do the shopping and food deliveries for him, instead of using somebody hired in charged to expenses. I'm not kissing his arse for what he did and it's not the best example he's set but honestly there's bigger sh*t to worry about.

They still want the virus to get about to achieve herd immunity. It's like getting primary school kids back in. If you think about the age of most primary school kids parents it would spread the virus through a large number of the population under the age of 40, who should in theory be largely unaffected by it.

So all this 'should be ok,herd immunity',as soon as there's one case of covid19, but there won't be one cos 10 min test not available yet,test results s taking days,whole school has to close again,deep clean,parents who've gone back to work now have to find child care,take time off,self isolate cos their kid's been in contact with covid case......just wait to open schools in autumn,like Eton?.....one rule for who

I'm not saying it's the right way to do it and there's no way they could tell you it's the plan. But at the end of the day exposing those who in theory can cope with it to it and then opening stuff up gradually will allow it to spread without overwhelming nhs. At the end of the day it's not going away without either vaccination (which could be ages away) or herd immunity which they don't even know works. Just my opinion i may well be wrong. As my dad used to say Man mind himself
