The message is a bit mixed.
I can see why people have closed. To protect its employees and in some cases their business, as some recommended practices cant be adhered to

You cant lock down 70 - 80% of the country and expect construction to carry on as normal. The other issue is money is not moving hands so fluently and these workers need paid.

The only reason they have done that is because they know once building has stopped, that's a recession right there. No other reason. Its likely to not be safe (sorry).

It won’t be a recession....it will be a depression.
I caught a hydraulic hose this morning and my usually hose shop is closed. Fortunately the other one I use is open. Those that can work with distancing should do so subject to the rules. This needs to be the new normal for the foreseeable!!

I think you have hit the nail on the head their this could go on for weeks and weeks we have to look at different ways of doing stuff but if suppliers wont sell you stuff you cant work I have jobs I could go to and work myself but cant get stone queries only supplying the big boys

I think Boris muddled his words slightly when initially announcing it. Should have had business Secretary next to him to announce employment and business restrictions. As @Regy53 says were all so interlinked though eventually one industry effects another. Next the retailer cancelled all store 're fits and capital expenditure so there's someone's work down the drain right there.

when you think about it most digger drivers and all dozer drivers have self isolated for years from the van to the machine and back to the van to go home so they would not even notice the differance

Also they’ve prob realised how fragile some of the big firms (since Carilion etc) are and will still have a housing shortage to deal with after this

I reckon once the virus has been contained/a vaccine created the domestic market will kick off as most people will have sat indoors looking at the same 4 walls thinking how they could extend/refurb to make their house better. Those that still have jobs that is.

fragile is not a word I'd use to describe most of 'em ....... bankrupt'd be more precise .. if they actually paid everyone they owed on time ... without all the current crisis s**t

There are far to many people losing a lot of money for this not to end up a recession, spending will be frugal for many in the recovery period.

I see mortgages being stoped unless 40% equity. Today my stock finance bank rang me (DF capital) we hardly use them but its handy to have. They asked for bank statements and stock lists to show our liquidity or they will consider there offerings, they are doing this as they predict a very hard hit to everybody.

I suppose its impossible to let people who can distance back to work and those who cant need to stay home as the supply chain is to messed up, for example JCB dealer could maybe split desks etc but then JCB are not building machines. The reps who are distanced have nothing or nobody to see so they are stuck.

The beer industry, why produce kegs when there's nowhere to send them

I do hope this makes the people of every nation look at whats important, local produce, small business, etc all taken for granted certainly in my adult lifetime

Hopefully it will also make people realise just how unimportant some high paying jobs and have a bit more respect for the people that keep the country moving, maybe lessen the idolization of musicians and sportstars whilst blue collar workers are shunned

But as mentioned in other posts above, the is so many breaks in the chain,disrupting some businesses to carry on, which then knocks on again.

It's become very real and close to home today ... was told that an elderly couple of friends Mo and Joe .. he was ex dev. engineer for LR in Solihull, in his day .. , succumbed to it ... Mo on Sunday and Joe yesterday in the local hospital, 5 miles away ... RIP both

Most probably not go to be a popular opinion on here but i want to be furloughed as does my manager and quite a few of our other depot managers and staff. We have already gone down from a depot of 6 to just the 2 of us since Monday and we are board as hell only had 1 hire and 1 off hire up till yesterday as everywhere shut down had 3 sites to do inspections on but the kit hadn't been used since last time so took no time at all. Been off today on leave should be off tomorrow but going as a favour to do 1 delivery and 1 collection Monday i have 2 shackles to take out and a site to do a inspection and then that is it.

Problem is we dont actually know how many have died exclusively from corona. Lots have been reported as having died whilst testing positive for it but not that it was the casuse. apparently 6k people a year die from 'normal' flu anyway.

I cant see the public staying locked up for another month so they have 2 weeks really to get it sorted. Once the 3 weeks free paid holiday runs out the pressure will be on to get back to work.

This is here for 6 months at least Fred. Make no mistake about it. The Gov have said we have 2 options.
Find a vaccine - which is over a year away so we are told.
Herd Immunity - which would work fast but would overwhelm the NHS. So doing this gradually would take nearly 2 years.

The above statements have both been said multiple times yet I still talk to people who think this lockdown is only for 3 weeks because thats what Boris said. Get with the program guys - this isn't going away anytime soon.

I cant see any business being around in 6 months times, every plumber, sparkie, chippy and brickie will be long bankrupt and living off foodbanks by then as they are getting f**k all from the gov. It will kick off bigtime. We are talking weeks not months i believe.
