Considering an auger

Like Mr Druid I would like to get one to go on my B15-3 but have held off as I was considering getting something a little larger 1.8 or 1.9 ton, Do you think a 1.5 ton is too small for a decent Auger.

1.5 ton machine will handle the auger but if you are planning to replace the machine it makes sense to spec the auger for the replacement. Just need to change the bracket then.

Go & buy the posts now so you can start the process of drying them out and pickling them in your chosen treatment ready for when the weather has improved and enthusiasm has been restored.

already have them sat ... two of the three posts died a while ago and have a couple of extras sat anyway for #3 ... good advice though .............
however,
I am seriously considering replacing these with 1002 SHS as they are the most exposed and really catch a southerly or worse a south westerly - big time ..... I also have a 25 footer of 4 and 5mm sat -- 4mm should be adequate

sadly, as said, pretty sure they've snapped off at concrete level, possibly even slightly below ... will know better once I've had a scrat about ... the Cranab'd scare the bejesus out of the concrete though, if i could get a hold of it .... I don't really want to destroy the holes/sockets/pockets if I can help it, 's why i thought of a drive spigot to rotate it in the holes, if i can't cleanly clear the 4" remnants out and leave a decent socket to try to persuade some 100mm SHS into

Nah just rip them out and use more concrete

Looks like Chinese crap. Probably doesn't even have a planetary set in it.

Basically, either Digga or AugerTorque. Nothing else in the UK comes close.

When the pre-fix Chinese is used to describe anything I don’t see the need to add the word crap I wonder if someone started making attachments, and called them RUBBISH ATTACHMENTS LTD whether they would out sell Chinese kit?

the bottom two feet of each post had 3 coats of black bitumenous so not really expecting them to be ripe TBH

have used a old auger bit that you put a wooden handle thru to wind i t in (found it somewhere )then used a block of wood to hold th concrete down levered the bottom of post up using block as fulcrum if that makes sense

They do 3m lengths of 100x100 and 4.5m of 25mmx150mm for either decking or gravel boards. It's heavy stuff and absolutely destroys drill bits. A blokes I work with installed a load of board walks with them installed of timber he seemed to find it easy but complained about drilling them as they have so much grit in them.

Fill them with sand.

Replaced some range firing pits cpl years ago in plastic 4x2 heavy stuff but solid will last for ever I would guess

I have a few of those augers ... but they're more like a drill ... can't see mine winding in - but yer never know .... attached to a 'Drema either the timber'd come out or the whole issue would ... either way would be fine as long as I don't destroy the hole the concrete is in

I've used plastic H posts in a sectional garage i helped a mate create years ago ... didn't know you could get them as a plain square though ... might be a bit flexible as a free standing fence line

I have seen them 4” solid square at 3 metres long but of the ones I have seen they don’t recommend building a fence over 1.5 metres.

No, I put some monster holes with a hired auger on my old schaeff. Auger usually went on a 5 tonner.

mine is 6 ft and 2ft in the deck for the posts
