That’s a thought , or a valve that returns the water back to the block if it’s shut so it would still circulate but avoids the matrix. I think I’m going to have to get in about it to see how it works

As I mentioned before ... the P38's control is done by varying the amount of air flow allowed to travel over the heater matrix .. the flap controls are called 'blend motors' ... and are infamous for giving fault ... and are a right bas***d to get at -- half the dash out -- I had a fault with the 'blend motor' on the drivers footwell a long time ago ... just wouldn't open resulting in having yer trotters frozen ... was like it a looong time and just suffered it ... got a new blend motor in a box to fit somewhere, but couldn't bring myself to rip the bloody dash out .... got in it one day and had heat 
... for no explicable reason ... starting again or stopping in the first place ???? your system sounds very much like a similar set up, as the P38 has no coolant flow control .. just air flow regulation from closed to fully open with a blend of cold and hot air regulating temp.s between

Yes I'd suspect that the air is controlled over the matrix rarther than the water and that the valve is stuck I know whenever I've had car heaters to bits there always full of leaves and twigs can you not get to it by pulling the seat forward and reclining it fully forward so you can reach over it?

I will give that a go first ! The machine is actually on site and I’m using it so I’m trying to sort things in it at tea time etc so I think if I’m going to have to take out the lever pod and seat it’ll have to wait til I get her home . I’ll just need to keep praying for the weather to break

cats LOVE laser pointers .... they see red exceptionally well and love to chase the dot ........Ours goes nuts, just opening the draw its kept in.
sadly me co-pilot is beyond it now .. still with us - God knows how

Well I’m so impressed with this old girl . It has managed to fix itself .
I took it home and never looked at it all the time it was there then it went back out to site before I got a chance . It was cold and windy on site this morning so with a lack of expectation I tried the heater . In 5 minutes it was burning the backs of my legs !
I must of solved the issue with all the things I tried before but ended up with an airlock that has now cleared .
Anyway delighted with the old girl .
My only issue now is that my new track motor (Chinese ) is a bit quicker and either on or off nothing in between . I may buy a used genuine one if I can get one for the right cash .
