another long, but interesting read here ....

yet another bollock dropped / **** up that will fail to achieve its intended target -- by a 'country mile', it would seem :(
I'd've never sold my yard for what they're proposing and neither will many others -- there has to be a real incentive / uplift, to make ppl even consider a conditional sale

" Housing secretary said to have secured down-payment for multi-year plan to double council house building rates .....Angela Rayner will be handed almost £1bn in funding as part of a plan to double the amount of council homes built each year, according to reports. "

well that'll be a big fat ZERO then
Councils 'round here haven't built any for years decades - not since the great 'asset giveaway' when they handed all their housing stock, gratis, to the social landlords in the area - initially Momouthshire Housing, set up specifically for the purpose and Melin, etc., since
I have always maintained that the council housing stock, which was a publicly owned asset (and often used as borrowing collateral, by authorities) paid for by rate payers, should never have been simply 'handed over' o_O:mad:😤
Apparently, at the time, tenants (and only tenants - no other rate payers) were canvassed about the move to social landlord responsibility, for maintenance, etc. and it was decided on that alone 🤬🤬🤬

They were transferred because councils were unable to borrow money for upgrades iirc

yes but no money changed hands for what was essentially massive publicly owned assets - I was never consulted about the 'transfer' - were you ? simply 'giving away' assets/collateral like that is insanity and a decision that so called 'councillors' were unfit to make -- lets be honest very few of them are fit or even vaguely qualified to make 99% of the decisions they do make, supposedly on the general public's behalf -- most of them are/behave like little 'tin gods' once they have their feet under the table ... a lot of MCC's're inept, aged, self interested, buffoons, who for the best part, love to hear the sound of their own voices and wallow in the supposed 'glory' of being a councillor. To say nothing of the pocket lining, that goes on !!

Local council gave all theirs away in 2002, the name has changed names a couple of times since. They’ve now decided to start again from scratch 🙄

absolutely stinks Matt .... all those properties were publicly owned assets - they had no rights or authority to do what they did - anywhere in the UK

well here's one Co. that can't see much of a future in earthmoving equipment rental

" Ardent still has more than 2,400 telehandlers and started 2024 with 2,000 earthmoving machines and access platforms. As of last month, 1,400 of the latter had been sold out, and all 2,000 are expected to be gone by the end of December. "

" “Ardent are allocating investment capital to their best performing assets in a bold move away from the ever-decreasing returns of the earthmoving sector.”

It added: “Capital equipment costs have been rising rapidly in recent years, coinciding with a decline in rental rates. This trend is partly driven by an oversupply of equipment due to the economic slowdown, as well as by new market entrants who are aggressively pricing to capture market share.

"Additionally, the global drop in residual values for used equipment has further eroded returns.” "

usual council **** up - couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery ... someone's ben releasing completion cert.s for the developers to be able to sell the damned houses

https://www.theconstructionindex.co...ues-developer-over-lack-of-affordable-housing

" ......as part of the Section 106 condition that 10% of the homes on the site be affordable housing. However, 126 houses have now been built and occupied, leaving only nine left to be built, which means that the affordable housing target cannot be met. "

It would be nice to think that this being highlighted might start opening some eyes to how ridiculous everything has become. Insane that it was approved in the first place though.
sad part is the money's already been spent on this lunacy --- WTF did someone not say " Whoah - WTF is this all about FFS ? - this is insanity "
