About to pull the trigger on a new KX027-4 - talk me out of it!

It's just the investment required with tractor and trailer. Id be spending £40-£50k to get a decent circa 100hp tractor and dump loader trailer. doesnt add up for moving a digger a handful of times a month and a bit of trailer use too.

To be fair it just sounds like you had bad luck with the last tractor. What was it?

How much are you looking to spend?
Same Dorado 86
It was a great tractor for the first 5 years. Would float across wet ground with that Herbst on But think probably a bit undersized for what I was doing for it needed clutch and brakes all re doing. Was doing alot of fencing back then too so was a good unit with the Wrag postrammer too- justified it's existence a bit more

Are you sure you need to spend that much? I keep seing reasonably low hour (4000-5000 hour) 100hp tractors, sometimes with loader for around 20k. Secondhand dump trailer 10k?

Well I guess it depends how new. I don't want to buy into problems. Yeah can probably buy an older mid 90s 6 cylinder for £14-18k and a new multi-purpose 12t dumptrailer from JPM is about £12k (mid range)

I'm talking something like a 100-120hp Kubota or Valtra, 2010 ish, 5k ish hours. Seem to be around the 20k mark. Modern common rail 4 cylinder will match an older 6 without all the bulk- I'd have though that would be better for your tight lanes?

You don't have to spend a certain amount not to buy into problems IMHO. It's luck of the drawer.

Yes very true and in many ways the more modern you go the more s**t that comes with it.

Won't you be limited on width? I wouldn't have taken anything wider than my ifor the way I came in to you 🤣🤣
Then you've got them hills...you'll need a fair bit of HP.

You'd think so but actually a sensible sized tractor can get over most of them even if a wheel is up on the bank to get the swing right😂 I think when they were building these bridges they thought right let's have a bit of fun here not only shall we make the bridge 8ft wide but we'll stick a dog leg in the road either side of it🤦

Yeah thought I was in the lakes for a minute 😊

Daft question...have you tried a 027?
We had our usual 027 the other day and both me and our kid both commented it seemed jerky tracking compared to the lil tak... interesting vins comment about track motors..
But apart from that I still like the 027 prob machine I've used the most ...punches well imo.
Lump to tow tho like any "towable 3t" machine

I've only had a go in one in yard so not exactly put it through it's paces- didn't think it was too bad grading tbh but probably do enough tracking for me to really pick up on that. Tak and Wacker are both super smooth machines in general id say

It is a lump. But it's actually pretty light compared to most. Plated weight at 2590kg Vs 2885kg for my tak. Think a few hundred kgs makes a big difference in both a good and bad way. Clearly much more comfortable from a legal standpoint but perhaps quite noticeable when it comes to handling heavy stuff🤔

If it’s not something doing frontline tractor work, I’d look at something like a 50 series JD, still fixable with spanners and will always be worth good money if you wanted to move it on. I’d love to have a 3650 in the shed!

My old 71 , if you pick something up and want to gently creep along with it then i set off with hands on leavers to try to be smooth, whereas the take up on the wacker is superb 👌 ,if you're picking up pebbles and tracking a bit to place them its important its smooth or you'll hate it.
