About to pull the trigger on a new KX027-4 - talk me out of it!

I wonder if the OP ever got his 027-4. Anyway I'm now thinking about one as well. Had a price of £33500+ vat which is for the hi spec version (twin prop rollers), no buckets just a hyd s30 hitch, and on steel tracks.
I really want a circa 2.7t on steels that can run a rotating grab and the reality is my taks are 2.9t bare stick on rubber- totally overweight if I went steels and a few buckets/thumb etc. The kub with steels, thumb and a few buckets will literally just squeeze in under 2.8t so seems the only real option... Or is it too close to my 2.2t wacker to worth bothering with argh I dunno!

If you have shared these thoughts with the dealer then you are bolloxed…
Hang fire - I think prices will come down further yet, we are sinking as a country, £33k for a mini digger is still mental!
Whatever you go for (especially on steels) will be too heavy (legally) however you justify it to yourself so keep your powder dry and sniff out 24/25 plate models of any brand that suit your needs for massive discounts if you need to spend some dosh for tax purposes (or otherwise stick with what you’ve got and take advantage of your geographical policing flexibility/blindness)…

Good advice and probably worth taking- haven't made positive noises to the dealer that price. The price of 2nd hand stuff is still mental though. £18k for a lo spec 027 that's done 2500 hrs etc.🤷 I haven't seen any hi spec kubs come up for sale, very little decent stuff from any brand on the used market just usual ex hire stuff. My taks can't run rotating grabs but no denying they're both still good money earners ATM.

I saw an advert for
, £33k for a mini digger is still mental!
I would imagine 2k of that is for the s30 hydraulic hitch- no cheap options on these as you yourself will know. Gotta be another 1-2k for the steel tracks also? Doesn’t sound a bad price tbh.

Other mainstream brands may still be cheaper though. Try bobcat for a laugh, I wonder if they are finally being realistic with initial offers?

I keep looking at the current offers and thinking all dealers are lying cnts tbh. No regrets on changing when I did though- 32k for a bare stick e27 with hitch kit fitted, and 20k for my outgoing model with 2k hours. Already had sunk costs in the form of a set of steel tracks. That was February 2024, I’m up to nearly 900 hours now. If I’d have held on then a new one might be 29k but I’d only get 16k for old one with 2900 hours.

I thought all you needed was a thumb? 🤣

Just kidding mate. You could try Hywel Evans- I think he’s starting to deal in certain brands direct and despite the distance I’m sure he’d look after you as he’s just as remote as you. Therefore must already use remote service partners.

Mine was 32 with 4 buckets geith hydraulic hitch hi spec and DAB radio for popmaster !
The geith hitch was good but it now has a hurricane hitch and engcon on it .
I had it on weighbridge on ifor trailer and I had a bit to spare but that was before engcon. I can put engcon and all the buckets in van if I’m going long distance .
I’m also planning steel tracks for mine . I went over it with doobin some time back and I don’t think it adds much weight at all .
I do really like the machine . It’s well balanced and has a decent cab . Good control for the 2 aux lines as well , although if your tracking or slewing at the same time as using aux lines they do slow down . There is a machine in this weight class that has a separate pump for aux lines but I can’t remember what one it was .
The only annoying thing about mine is the track motors are quite aggressive and the tracks tear all before them . If you track across a lawn it’ll tear the turf . I think the steel tracks will be better all round .

Well for balance I thought I'd go both thumb and grab this time😅 basically have the thumb mounts welded on so I can have it on for general/footpath work handling big boulders but then the twisty grab for more intricate walling etc which for now I can share with my Wacker as both S30. At least with a hi spec I could leave the thumb plugged in and still use an attachment
The logical replacement for the takeuchi would be the 030-4 but there's a good 200kg difference which when sailing close to the wind anyway... But I do worry 200kg could also make a big difference when it comes to trying wrestle big stuff around.

That could work well I reckon.

You are in Gods county - low odds of a tug. I figure the real risk is having a bad accident with illegal load then then you could be open to some expensive litigation. Mind you, that chap near Oke got away fairly lightly with nearly killing someone with a dozer blade hanging off his lorry..

Yep he did. It's not so much the law or getting a tug that bothers me so much tbh but like to think I have a bit of mechanical sympathy and would rather not dog the Navara to death more than I have to. The 027 just seems a sensible weight in the right spec.
