5/6 tonners

Looking at 5/6 tonner excavators for site work. Looked at a tidy U55-4 local. Any others I should look for or steer clear off ?

I thought you were getting a KX-57 with full-fat Engcon S45 setup earlier this year?
I’d personally avoid a zero tailswing as it will be compromised stability-wise. None of these little machines have much of an arse on them.
KX57 or TB260 would be where I’d be looking personally.

Hitachi ZX65USB-6 great machine, stable with a tiltrotator too

Yeah think my choices would all be conventional tail swing...

Kubota KX057-4 or KX060-5

Volvo EC55D

Takeuchi TB260

The only exception I'd have for the reduced tail job is the Hitachi ZX65USB as @CPS says a great machine, smooth to drive and quite stable.

The u55-4 is a kubota isn't it ??

Out of interest would you not be better going 8 ton as haulage is the same.
If you have your capable 3 ton already, then likely the 5 ton will be used for bulkier digs in which case must as well have 8ton? I have a 3 and 5 ton, but would prefer a 3t and 8t to cover covers all bases better... 5 is still too small sometimes.

Big price difference though. I think that's why 6 tonners are so popular and most are specced with 8 tonner buckets so people think they'll get a similar amount of work done with one (but they wont).

For sure, But if buying used, the price difference seems to come down quite a bit...

Got a 3 and a 5 ton and 3 don't get used much at all as 5 has tilty and does 3 ton work and also up to 8 ton work
