4x4 pickups or iveco's that will tow 3.5 ton

Because you can use them for everything and anything! It would need to be 100% justified and utilised to be viable mind you!


I’m considering a transit 350, 170ps panel van… tows 3500kg. Driven afew variants of them and they are a nice place to sit in. No idea on wait times as it would be a new one, fully racked out.

and the cost of that would be ???????

I didn’t know any transits could tow that much? They are comfortable things to drive. (You won’t in any way look like a pikey driving around in it so don’t worry about that by the way…)!

I really like a nice sun visor, but pikeys have absolutely ruined them for the average bloke. You couldn’t have one without looking like one

From memory plated trailers are no more than 8500kgs per axle, and drawbars imposed load of 1000kg, a 2 axle drawbar trailer like that will be 18000kgs gross, if agri 18290kgs gross, either way neither will be legal with 20t payload

Ironically when I orderd my new trailer the first comments from the dealers were ‘why don’t you go bigger ‘ etc! Well it’s pointless

Lots of them say “ah but I just use it on the farm and rarely on the road so it won’t run overloaded/above agri weight limit”

It doesn't matter as most these trailers have a drawbar weight exceeding the swl of the pickup hitch.
I never quite understand why Agri trailer are built knowing this and they don't move the axles forwards a bit

Because they would have to put extra axle in. Uk limit is 3ton on a pickup hitch yet a lot of ag trailers now (18ton plus) are up nearer 6 to 8 ton on hitch

Even 15t and some 12t trailers overload the hitch due to axle placement though. I've towed 18ft bale trailers that 160hp tractors won't pickup without help from a telehandler when loaded with haylage due to the poor axle placement.
And it can't be impossible to do as chopper wagons ro ro skip trailers tend to have better axle placement

It's often done deliberately to aid travelling/grip in the field more weight on the back wheels of the tractor is better than more on the trailer wheels.

.... at 3.8t payload, way over the 3.5t gross for yer average license holder to tow ... must have independent braking too - air or leccy. Can't see it grossing at 4.5t though ... looks a lump
