Would socket head (Allan) bolts give you better access?To be fair I find it takes a frustrating ten minutes normally minus some skin . There’s no way to get a socket or a spanner on so it’s a 1/4 of a turn at a time job.

That was my ideaIt’s a corn mill/root chopper base, think they come in 4 different sizes. I know a guy who used to use them for fancy table bases.
