Just off the dash and average over a few thousand miles, never been bothered to work out mileage Vs actual fuel used
The dash reading is worked out off rpm, speed and throttle position. When mapped you don't need to press the throttle down as far so the dash figures go up nicely, not always the same story if you measure it at the pump.

Thing is engine size doesn't necessarily mean more fuel used. I think the Shogun at 3.2 is mildly more economic that my old 2.5l disco. A larger lazy engine not needing much rpm Vs a smaller one with foot down. Hmm

Getting more miles to a tank though was 350ish now seeing 400ish again all dependant on if towing and what trips

100% that 2.0 biturbo ranger I had while mine was in, was worse on fuel, towing and empty on a run. It didn't drive bad and towed alot better than I thought it would but the reality is the smaller engine had to work harder more often. It's 1 cylinder less and a 1.2 litre smaller capacity

It's cheaper to run my tdv8 range rover for work than my brand new iveco. Rr is 26mpg iveco is 19mpg. So much for the new stuff been better for the environment.

But the iveco will put out less particles per mile. Fair enough I. Town centres but highly irrelevant in open countryside. All the green policy's of the last 20 years must have been whipped out in 4 weeks by Putin's little jolly

Green agenda pissing in the wind and again no more than an easy to grab money taxing crap. If sources like this are true. Taxing the crap out of us isnt going to put a dent in co2 emissions compared to globally

Is that the 4.2? Expect that will tow like a dream👍👍
They don't half tow them...mate had 6t on his 14ft ...don't ask...dragged it no probs albeit a tad slowly

Yes 4.2, couldn’t think of anything else that ticked the boxes.
needed 7 seats plenty of room nice to drive, tows well and isn’t a Land Rover or a shogun.

Nice. You did well to find one as they're getting on a bit know- I looked at a few but sadly rust had got the better of them and they still wanted silly money for it

I toyed with the idea of an 80 series or 100 series landcruiser but I think prices are over inflated partly due to a cult following and for the fact they are the best 4x4 ever made. But the fact of the matter is I don't live in South Africa or Australia and diesel is now 180p a litre, i can't justify it. Shogun is fine, I can run it into the ground without worrying about damaging a sought after classic and if I breakdown I'm not going to die of dehydration.

Nissan patrol....I've heard they're good.

And surprisingly rare so used parts will be dear.
I think your stuck with landys or shogun's for under £10,k.
I liked my shogun it was just a bit slow but quicker and gruntier than a td5.
Trouble with the jap stuff is it doesn't brake for years, then when it does it seams like a drama.
Landys break all the time and often the most ridiculous thing so it keeps you on your toes.

This is probably true. But I think half the trouble with landy stuff is replacement parts is flooded with cheap Chinese aftermarket stuff which everyone seems to fit and then wonder why it fails a year later.

I’ve just sold a td5 I really really disliked it for some reason but I’ve got 2 or 3 300tdis that are used most days on agg limited use and don’t mind them.
the Amazon I’ve had is tidy underneath so it’s up on the 2 poster getting undersealed and chassis etc filled to try and preserve it. I’m hoping I don’t need to buy another tow car for a few years. It helps that I’ve got another 100 series for spares sat in the yard, complete but with shagged gearbox that some one abandoned
last landcrusier here did 400k

The problem with jap stuff is because they don't break down all the time you never have to bother doing anything with them and then all of a sudden you've missed the fact it's rotten and its beyond worth repairing. Tin worm seems to appear fast as well once it starts.
