Beat me to it

It's worth having another crack at it, as the perforation guarantee is something like 10 years
I think it's 10 year perforation guarantee on Toyotas except for the barely painted underneath Hilux which is only 3 years 🤣🤣

Are the Hilux bad? Seen a few amaroks and navaras that the chassis wasn't looking to clever on after a year

I’m amazed any manufacturer goes as far as that because of rust on a chassis - did the chassis that was stripped and repainted need any repairs/welding first?

Oh yeah and the newer ones worse still by the looks. They all need treated when new mine never got it and actually at 11 year old it would have made it out of a 10yr guarantee just.

Not that I know of, majority of the problems that I've seen on all the pickups, is around all the welds.
Have seen pictures of a South African one that has rotted through.

To be fair at least ford are doing something, haven't heard of any other manufacturers doing anything for the rust on pickups (since d40 Navara)
On the flip side similiar age transit tippers show little rust

The chassis and panels alright but the sills and inside the arches aren't great.

Everywhere there is a weld is where the holes start, to do with the effect of heat on the steel and the fact that there's 2 layers for moisture to get between. The chassis above the the front spring hangers for the rear leaf springs on hilux's will almost certainly have holes in it at 10 years or older. Lot of weld in that area luckily if you don't cut spring hanger off you probably won't find it.

@Big Jordy ,try [email protected]
I emailed them on that about mine, but they said it only applied to 2015 onward as mine was a `13 it would`nt be effected 🙄 Reading this has reminded me to give them some mither.
I found that email online on a ranger forum and emailed all the details aswell as pics of the chassis so I’ll see what comes back.. thanks again @Brendan for putting your post up I’d never have known other wise… another score for the forum lol 😂

So got the Shogun now. So far pretty pleased with it- had it towing this morning and it did a hill start on a 1 in 4 incline with 2.7t behind so pretty pleased with its low end torque. The auto box is nice to use and the gearing is just right for towing IMO. Diesel consumption is not great as you might imagine around 20-22mpg. Just got to sort out tool storage etc in the back.

I'll be interested to know how you figure out tool storage, it's something I've been meaning to do but just never got around to. I did make the decision to remove back seats, I regretted not doing it sooner.

Probably not relevant to your needs, but I seen a neat set up in a plumber/gas mans Isuzu swb trooper van, he made a false bulk head behind the front seats, angled back to the angle of the seats reclined, fitted out with storage boxes and shelves for all his fittings. When he got started he just flipped the seats forward and could reach what he needed easily through the front doors.

I suppose it depends what kind of tools you want to store. I was going to remove the single seat leaving the 2/3rd rear as it might get used a bit for family use too. Keep all long handle spades and digging tools down the side where the single seat was and then probably shelf out the right hand side of the boot and have plastic crates for all the different stuff- keep it simple. Heres the old girl.

Around the same as my remapped ranger, was barely getting 16mog when towing 3.5t till the remap. It does seem to drop every now again dependant on conditions but far better than it was
