Amarok will be same platform as the ranger, won't be a great deal of choice for new pickups. Out of the main marques only ford, VW and Isuzu will still be in the UK plus the sangyong musso not sure if any others will be coming back although their was a rumoured defender 90 pickup
Be interesting to see how the ford/vw pans out with vans and pickups. You can't see it working that ford badge all the cheaper/lower spec vehicles and vw stick their badge on the high end ones. And it could be that you end up with the worst of both combined rather than the best.

It looks like ford are only bringing the small 2.0l engines in to the UK, even though the is a v6 3.0l else where, maybe for the UK the deal is VW can have the larger displacement models?

No worry's, now we have a trade dealy with Australia I'm hoping we can get access to the good old 70 series troopy with its 4.4l V8 Diesel.

That's the puzzle though isn't it Ford get to sell all the low profit models and vw get the cream?
Supposedly the big thing behind it is to cut manufacturing costs by teaming up. But if the two biggest sellers to begin with couldn't have a decent margin wtf they been doing.

All very vague on details...I can't quite figure out how it's going to pan out yet .I'm not convinced that VW will bring the V6 over here even with all this emissions s**t.
Although Funny with all the apparent eco conscious that when they brought the last V6 here their pickup sales rocketed? 😉🤪

It wasn't that big a surprise to anyone who had experience of the 2 litre bi turbo motor in their vans certainly the early ones anyway.

Yes...much preferred the old 2.5 although in fairness the 2.0 in my old Amarok wasn't that bad

Its more the fact the early 2 litre bi turbo engine ate themselves. I know of one that did it in a transporter and the lad found out it was so common vw offered an exchange engine scheme but it was about 7k. Was something to do with egr cooler setup i think. It was possibly altered before the pickups came out.

I can't remember exactly what it was but i think it was blamed on egr cooler being mounted low down and i think alloy heat exchanger which corroded and sent aluminium oxide through the intake filing the bores down. Either way i know low compression was the end result. I think they were lucky there wasn't big numbers of vans sold with the early bi turbo setup tbh.
They went well enough mind.

Vag 1.6tdi’s are also bad for egr cooler faults. Seen a 2.5 T5 with over 500k on the clocks!
