Santana a Spanish car maker used to assemble series 3 land rover then started to build them under licence when the defender came about they went there separate ways and produced a vehicle called the ps10 basically a series 3 with a 2.8 iveco engine eventually they where bought out by iveco and relabeled the mastif, don't know whether they are still produced but not available in the UK for sure
I had a Santana at one point. It was like stepping back in time ten years plus. It got me over a rough patch when the guy who worked for me at the time rolled my 130 and the insurance payout was not enough to replace it with another 130. It pulled 3500kg okay, but never felt that stable and stopping was interesting at times. Ideal basic farm vehicle though, just never had enough of a dealer network to give confidence they would still be about next year.

Manual 3.0 invincible, 2012.. and with the new Toyota warranty/ service deal it has still has manufactures warranty on major components 👌🏻
Oh and yeah, it’s been with me as long as my wife so kinda hard to get rid of easily!
My 07 invincible has had one hard life...well known on other forums, it still keeps soldering on. I've not as many hilux as I once had, the newest now been a 61 plate. I'd of had a few more but as with many plans things alter. Hilux will still be my first choice over any pick up.

I’ve had 4 Navaras from new and would have bought a 5th if the dealer wasn’t a muppet. All 100% reliable and all worked pretty hard. I genuinely prefer them to the Hilux I demo’d and subsequently ordered (nothing really wrong with the Hilux, but not as comfortable and don’t ‘feel’ as well finished as the Nissan IMO).
I’m also not blinkered by the legendary Toyota reliability as mates with Hilux’s have had plenty of issues (as did I during the ownership of a Dyna which had numerous electrical problems, none of which were cheap to fix!).

Out of every hilux I've had, and it's aprox 13, not one have given any bother, whereas I've had several issues with many other manufacturers.

Hilux was never a comfort vehicle or top power but it just goes out and does its job without issue

You can also buy 1.5 Navaras to the Hilux. And kept in warranty they are far from half the truck. How long my NP300 will be on the road I don’t know and won’t find out. Best be ordering my next truck based on some of the lead times quoted here!
No Amarock, Navara, X class, Renault or Fiat pickups in the uk now. There’s not a lot of choice anymore to be fair

It all depends on what you do with them. Most are comfy and will do day to day stuff. It's only If you need stuff to work hard that you need to chose between them

So of all the experience of hilux that is here can anyone give me an idea as to what the chassis and in general the vehicles are like for corrosion as they approach 10 years old?
I’ve just sold my discovery 4 and am in the process of selling my transit tipper with a view to replacing both with a hilux. The aim is to get one vehicle to do the job of both with it’s obvious savings. A little idea what they are like for corrosion resistance would be great. I’m a little put off with the navara by the chassis issues. thank you.

I have the Iveco tipper and an older Discovery 1. I can’t imagine a pick-up ever being able to replace the pair. But I guess it depends on what work you do!!

Mine is coming up to 10years and fairing well underneath, I smothered it in waxoyl when it was brand new so that’s obviously saved it. Rear crash bar is in need of blasting and painting now as it’s tatty, other than that it’s really tidy! It may end up getting tan for another 5yrs as I don’t think it will loose much more value tbh

So your looking at mk6/7. If neglected they will rot on the rear cross member.

As with anything at 10 years old buy on condition, just get under and give it a good look over. If you look at a few you will soon be able to see a good one over a not so good one.

Ive just gone back to a mk6 from an 11 plate navara, nothing at all wrong with the navara, nicer to drive and more refined but when it comes to getting the job done the hilux is where its at.

Other issues to look out for other than rust is injectors leaking, tell tale signs are, lots of while smoke from cold start up, lumpy idle and lack of power.

Caught in time they can be changed , if not it'll wash the bores and it'll need new rings in it, I speak from experience

Any 10 year old pickup if it hasn't been looked after and treated regular underneath will have limited life left. Hilux's as a rule rust from the back forwards but don't take that as a guarantee that if the back end looks ok the rest is. Pay particular attention to body mount points on the chassis.
Most important thing check mot history online, if it looks mint and nicely treated underneath but 3 years previous had mot advisories for corrosion walk away.

Amarok will be same platform as the ranger, won't be a great deal of choice for new pickups. Out of the main marques only ford, VW and Isuzu will still be in the UK plus the sangyong musso not sure if any others will be coming back although their was a rumoured defender 90 pickup
