A.n.other long day yesterday .... but not such an early start ...
Pam's been in Plymouth since Sunday ... went back with the kids, as they were short of a childtamer minder for a couple of days - theirs was poorly ... and no way was she coming back on a bus full of 'suspects' so went to fetch her ..
Text Wed.s afternoon ... can I bring a bag of blocks with me? .... er no ... dumpy won't fit in the Golf .. half o' one did though
sat well on the black top with that lot for ballast ...
left here half ten ..... got less than a mile in the first 15 minutes .. lane being 'surfaced' ... truck in front of me must've had a new driver, 'out the box' .. no ****ing idea ... had a good 11 ft to get through ... made the road boys shift their truck ... after a good 15 minutes sat there arguing with them .. absolute muppet ....
into the garage in the village for fuel .... and another 15 minutes shot, waiting for some 'individual' to trickle a fiver into their heap and then search for a mask to be allowed in to pay for it

i'd put 60 quidsworth into the golf in almost the same time, but the b**tard beat me to the door ......
anyway, I was eventually away, gunned it 'til i got to the M/way then dialed 70 and set the cruise, with the odd slow down for muppets hogging the wrong lane ...
M5 now has cameras on every bloody bridge apparently and I've never collected a speeding ticket in 47 years of driving ... traffic was grim down to Exeter and then thinned out.
Left the garage in the village with the dash saying the tank was gonna give me 410 miles (god knows what pam's been doing with the car last week - usually a good 550 miles ... by the time i'd gotten to Exeter the dash was up to 640 miles ... and I'd already covered 120 miles - good old cruise 
... last 40 miles of up and down on the A38 killed that back to 560 ...
Josh logged off his terminal after lunch and we unloaded the boot of the car (been working at home since Covid kicked off) then spent some time sussing his layout and design for a stair flight up into his loft he's converting ... had it sort of sussed, on paper and just needed to check it could be made to work - two heads, etc.(and one that's made hundreds of stair flights) ... it worked - just .. wouldn't want to be any tighter !!
His wife eventually got back from school, having picked up #2 child 'en route' , from preschool ... some teas/coffees and a change for them and we headed off down the harbour, for some tea, at a place that does GF chish and fips to die for

and very quiet for a Thursday evening (apparently)
nice 'restaurant' above the best chippy in Plymouth (I'm told) and has to be said, mine was stunningly nice .. a real treat ... not something I get to eat often, but t'was a 'sod it' job last night ... bloody long drive for fish an' chips though

Has now come round to the NW, so might see a bit more overnight .... 's cold enough for it and forecast to be pretty wild overnight, 'til the late morning
Pam's been R.A.F. all day, but has been over doing it since a week ago, so hardly surprising .. aaaand has caught whatever the kids have -- barking like a dog on and off all day ... been banished to bed for the day, to try and catch up a bit ... and keep me out of range of whatever lurgy she's carrying around

'til big sis started to bounce her about, after I'd picked her up from school ......
hard to believe it's 6 years, nigh on, since I was last 'left holding the baby'
sunset a week ago ...... not seen it since ........ not likely to, for a while, either, looking at the forecasts

why do things always choose the weekends to give grief ????
last weekend get a stifled scream/muttering from Pam ... bloody washing machine is chucking H2O all over the floor from underneath it somewhere.. so after probing and searching all the obvious/usual suspects I'm scratching my head ... everything intact ??

cleaned and flushed the water system out last Saturday morning and changed all the filters ...
still working at it's usual 1.5 bar, but with a seriously increased flow rate ... and the damned stuff is overcoming the soap tray's ability to pour it into the drum ... hoses off and flushed out of soap build up and job sorted
couple of times this week, I've been awoken in the early hours by the pump coming on (it lives just below our bedroom window) for about 20-30 seconds, re-pressurising the system .... assumed it was just a cistern refilling slowly in a bathroom?
did it again this morning as I'm about to have me brekky, so thought ... let's find it .... nothing, nada filling/running ... check yon washing machine see if the drum's filling at all - 'praps a bit of grit/sh1t/scale in a solenoid valve .. nope ???????????
just getting up and see water on the floor ... more boiler direction than washer .... front off - wet base plate .. top off - drip drip ..... bloody flow control switch - tells the thing the water is flowing and it's OK to light up for hot water ... Oil combi - crap ideas, full stop ...
But at least it's on the top and relatively accessible.
isolated the hot water system and drained off what little was sat and whipped the damned thing out, once i'd disconnected it from the control board .... clinically cleaned, examined and vaselined - re-installed ... and it still dripped???
repeat and install in reverse orientation to see the side it appeared to be dripping from ...
and the bloody thing is weeping through two tiny pin prick size holes in the body - invisible without pressure weeping out of them ... assume it has somehow become porous, or is a faulty moulding, which has decided to let go and with a constant 1.5 bar behind it - it drips !! ........ took some finding as you'd just not expect it to be doing what it is ....no cracks/splits/whatever, just these two little weeps. Been fine for the 111/2 years we've been here
HRPC in Hereford are great for bits - when they're open .. it was now Saturday afternoon and we are talking tiny weeps but constant and wetting drain, remove, clean and dry for the umpteenth time and it got some superglue smeared over the surface and has been cooking on various heat sources - wood burner / radiators (can run the boiler for heating as it's two separate systems ) and is gonna get a try in the morning, after re-installation ... don't need it overnight and the boiler's fine with the hot water system isolated.
Working/cured or not, trip to HRPC on Monday, after me hamster juice, for a new one

Yodel performing to their usual standard yesterday ..... get an email about 11pm saying they delivered a package at 20.00 yesterday evening .... had they **** .. been here all day
walked down/up the drive, in case they'd done their usual trick of dumping it beside the road, half a mile from the house .. (I sh1t you not - they'll just drop it on the floor at the end of the drive and call that a delivery)
tracking confirmed their email - supposedly delivered.
checked with a couple of neighbours this morning - no, not that tw*t - NADA !! ... emailed the seller on fleabay and fair play rapid reply saying he'd get on to Yodel
13.50 this afternoon, knock on the door - Yodel - with said package in the hands of ... not the guy who'd claimed to deliver it yesterday evening
my heart sinks whenever i see them listed as the carriers on an invoice - useless, incompetent, lying tossers .. i have never had a delivery from them that wasn't hassle or grief.
DPD, Amazon, Hermes, Prime, Parcelfarce and UPS have all been here this week, without any drama, when they said they would be

off Caerphilly road on the way in off the A470 ?? think i've been to them before ... more gas than oil IIRC, but good ...... mother used to have a Swedish multi fuel/burn anything boiler and getting bits for that was something else

They were on cowbridge road East, but now over by the hospital just off the roundabout. They stock all sorts, if it's not in one of the satellite branches they will have it in Bristol, bottom of the m32.

I know they are a Worcester stockist. Some part numbers still live in my head. 8-716-142-319-0 is a sensor iirc. Think they are a stockist for grant also.

well the superglue sealed the weeps, but don't trust it overnight and just turn the feed on when hot water is required ....
new one ordered this morning .... very lucky to get through to them....
had to leave a message and didn't hold a lot of hope on a return call, but fair play, an hour later 'Ash' was on the phone .. been a stock taking morning and no one answering the phones. open tomorrow - last day 'fore January the 8th
so a visit to Hereford tomorrow, to collect me flow switch and also ordered a needle valve body, for the kero line, that gave me grief a few weeks back.
Been meaning to order one since and not gotten around to it ...
seeing as they're shut for well over two weeks, thought it a good insurance to have sat, in case ..... can guarantee the damned thing'll give issues otherwise.
Also wanted to include a spare Danfoss burner jet/nozzle, as installed my spare a few weeks back too - should last years .. previous one did, but .....
'Ash' tells me that they're unobtainable ATM ... haven't had stock for several weeks/months ... can't get them - world shortage - ........
However, Amazon appear to have stock - at 3 times the usual price
think I'll suck that one and see for now gonna be well PO-ed with a nozzle failure after only a couple of weeks in service

Hi Matt -- what's in there is a Danfoss nozzle - green top container - 0.75 x 80 EH USgal/h ° Degree Spray Pattern Heating Jet 2.25 Kg/h ......
it also has 9BE and OK stamped on two of the hex nut faces too ?? ...
seem to be plenty of S and ES,s about and smaller 0.4,s or 0.6,s and bigger flows/hour .... but what I want is in short supply ...
Ash at HRPC/Wolseleys this morning said they haven't been able to get that size for months ???
I like to keep spares, particularly for Vicki's old Worcester Danesmoor (which I have .. and is different) - seems to be the only thing that gives issues with her's, apart from water logged filters, despite a recent new tank, but it runs on a Tigerloop, so gets a lot of fuel circulating through it, where as ours is a gravity feed.
Think I said, I changed our nozzle recently, as it had started to smell after shutdown and appeared to have developed a drip/was damp, on inspection .. new one cured it and the old one I took out has been in there since we came here
... just like having these things to hand, 'cos as I say, it's always a weekend these things give trouble and as I was on the phone ordering, thought might as well order one too.

well Matt @pettsy gave me another possible source for a nozzle and ...... " unfortunately we are currently out of stock due to severe supply chain issues the manufacturer is currently experiencing. We do have several thousand of this nozzle on order with Danfoss but are currently unsure when we will receive further stock. " was their email reply to my web inquiry on their chat line seems the same story every where !!
Collected me bits from HRPC/Wolesley IIRC Wednesday morning, 'fore they shut for Chrimbo that evening ... and got the flow switch installed
in situ .... old one'd been pressurised for a couple of hours, to see how it held .... getting checked regularly, but after some heat and time the superglue film'd succumbed too, so glad the switch'd turned up when it did. Needle valve is stil functional and dry ATM so t can stay put 'til it gives issues again.
We've had a house full since Thursday tea time, when the Plymouth contingent descended and combined with Vicki, et al, we had nine (well ten if you count the one due on the 6th Jan) - to a roast beef evening meal
don't often need both leaves in't table
I just hope she doesn't pop here - she's usually 10 days early and the prospect on an extended stay, beyond the planned Boxing day departure does NOT bare thinking about .. the house is a manic tip

Pam has still not fully recovered from their last visit and the barking cough the kids generously gave her ... can see a repeat coming up as she just does not know when to back pedal a bit and I am keeping them at a serious arm's length, or I'll not be fit to look after Pam for yet another month .... the two year old's relatively easy enough - the 4 year old is a little heller ... needs a couple of weeks of 'instruction' .... But I couldn't stick it.
Clara's been fine and the new little sister's been --- OK with Mum ... soon as I pick her up/say hello/come within 5 feet, the decibel meter's off the scale ... cute from a distance .. ATM

seems the same story every where !!Collected me bits from HRPC/Wolesley IIRC Wednesday morning, 'fore they shut for Chrimbo that evening ... and got the flow switch installed
in situ .... old one'd been pressurised for a couple of hours, to see how it held .... getting checked regularly, but after some heat and time the superglue film'd succumbed too, so glad the switch'd turned up when it did. Needle valve is stil functional and dry ATM so t can stay put 'til it gives issues again.
We've had a house full since Thursday tea time, when the Plymouth contingent descended and combined with Vicki, et al, we had nine (well ten if you count the one due on the 6th Jan) - to a roast beef evening meal
