day started unusually with me praying to the boiler God ..... ours rather than Vicki's .. for a change ... been smelling Kero in the utility for a couple of days ??? o_O:unsure: so had to have a bit of an exploratory delve ... see WTF was causing the smell
flu burning clean as a whistle and no detectable smells .. if the nozzle'd been dripping the niff would've been going up the flu .....
new territory for me .... not had the burner out o' this Grant ... never needed to ..... anyway .. covers off and trying to see WTF holds it in the water jacket/firebox and can just see a tiny little drip ???? .. looks like the pump filter(?) body cover ... nipped up the SHCS,s holding it and hey presto .. dry again ...... odd it should've suddenly started, but I'll take that as a repair :giggle:
Gotta take the quick wins sometimes.

Ran out of oil myself Saturday morning only one place open til 12 so off I set heading towards lands end 30 mile trip there to pick up 100l
Got back got it in tank then set about bleeding pump took 3 attempt's having to hit restart to get it pumping and holding rag by bleed valve while trying to loosen/tighten it
In the 4 years on oil this is first time we've ran out so half of Saturday was gone doing that
it's annoying ..... Vicki is always doing it .... I keep an eye on ours and'll fill it when I can get a 1000 into the tank --- 1600L job so always a good reserve and won't drag Matt's guys up here for less than 1000L ... Vicki's is on a Tiger loop so always self primes pretty quick as it's pumping at a fair rate ..... gravity fed can be a PITA ... unless you have a good head - ours is about 7 ft.
what did it cost you Stu .... ours has gone up considerably ... was 29p last Nov and was up to 42p last week .... use about 8L a day, this time of year ... not bad really .... like to keep the house a comfortable temp. ... keep it warm and it stays warm ... let it cool down and it takes ages to warm again .. big ol' stone walls, as you know.;)

That's one thing I don't miss about our oil boiler...used to have an agreement with neighbour...often swapped 50l if we ran out..we had about 7500 l of tanks between us .and still managed to run out .
Heat pumps saved all the hassle ...and for nowt...thanks to RHI😉

That's it...basically FOC boiler over 7 years.my thinking was if it's crap bin it off then I needed new boiler anyway. So far so good and lot less hassle 3 years in now.

I'm pretty sure once you sign up there is no going back or at least it is very hard to go back.

Yes during the 7 years afaik. The lad that sorted it is pretty savvy with it all. Got to "know" the system.

I'm guessing with an £825 payment quarterly the system has got to be serious bucks to install in the first place, to warrant that sort f payback from HM Gov.

And they don't run on fresh air either
Nope...don't reckon any cheaper than oil probs about similar from our experience but we did extension so can't do apples for apples comparison. Not saying it's for everyone but worked for us as no option apart from oil.

No running costs on top....but oil was costing us a packet anyway🤷
so basically you eventually get the installation costs returned over 7 years ....]
but in the meantime .... if it's crap, you're out of pocket and committed to it for 7 years ..... it's no cheaper to run, with no guarantee of it being any good..... and if it ain't you have to suffer it for 7 years 'fore you can replace it with summat that does work .......

I'm out .... 8ltrs a day ... known heat source and cost (nigh on)
