well gutted😢😢 another expense this thing is a bloody money pit😂😂
So had a morning welding the new 25mm thick chassis members and boxing the rear cross member so the counter weight tucks in underneath and the two 10mm thick engine mounting strips, now it’s welded up it seem to have stiffened it up a treat
So here we go the completed engine bay just the hydraulic oil tank bracket to adapt
Let the welding police scrutinise my attempts at vertically sticking two pieces of metal together🤔

What were you going to see out of that window anyway by the time it’s built up . Tack a bit of tin on it .

Got a bit of head scratching electrical work to do on it next🤔
the deutz is 24v but the machine is 12v not going to replace the starter, alternator (don’t want to spend any money on it😉) but also want to keep the machine standard I.e. dashboard and the like (there is a 12v solenoid under the cab controlling some hydraulics) so need a plan to start and run the engine on 24v but control it with the 12v wiring🤔

Find someone who knows about 80 series landcruisers ideally. They were 12v but some had 24v starters (bit of good old fashioned over engineering). I know you're trying to keep cost minimal but might be easier swapping alternator and starter (or possibly just alternator).

should be able to build a 24v start/charge circuit separate from the rest of the machine Mog and split a charge off to a 12v circuit to run everything else .... instrumentation senders'll need swapping out for their 12v counterparts though.
beauty of that Deutz unit is they are a self contained power pack set up and should be buildable electrically as a virtually stand alone item, sat in the back of yer Mogatsu

I was just going to say Belarus tractors have this set up. The Belarus used a 12v alternator, and the only thing tat used 24v was the starter, the relay swapped the batteries between wired parallel and series when the key was in start position.
that is a bloody cool bit of trickery :love::love:
job sorted @Mogman (y)

Im not going to purchase anything for it🤔 (starter £100 alternator £250😢) because as soon as I do there will be an abundance of 12v deutz engine powered products coming into the yard😉 plus I need to get a window for it now🤬, got a few machines to collect from an airport soon👍 Just thinking there must be a way of doing it (well in my head I’ve done it🧐) now if it works in practice is another thing🙄 would be better being just 12v as not a lot of room for the second battery😢

I can appreciate you not wanting to buy anything for it as let's face it that's kinda the whole point behind this thread about getting it working. To be fair any 12v alternator could be mate to fit its the starter that would need to be more specific.

think I'd bite the bullet on the Belarus relay Mog .. real easy solution, unless as you say, summat 12V turns up and just bang any old 12v alternator on there .... pretty std set up IIRC

The alternator is connected directly to the fan in a cowling so not as simple🤔 but not had a proper look if another one can be fitted🤔
this is what the engine looks like only a 4 cylinder

Just stretch it a bit further - you can have as many batteries as you like then! Could even build an electric digger out of it....

Must be similar setup to what some landcruisers ran.
