Must admit, if I was younger, I'd go on to do my NVQs.
All the time I've had a CPCS Ticket, only been asked for it once
That was a big local company who wanted test holes done the very next day.
Then they didn't pay me for 3 months
So gonna stick to local 'private' jobs until I retire.

To Update on todays affairs.... Industry leaders seem to think constant proof of competence through a ticket scheme is required... Because the past 20 years has yielded such competence.

I've noticed when on these training/competency courses who are held by self-employed instructor brought in for the day because they hold some important ticket they seem to demonize the company/owners as some kind of HR exploiters and appear to me to teach participants to dislike the company and or its procedures without even taking the time to find out what it's about. Once they learn one is on the course they of course change their tact but it makes you wonder what's it's like when not there, you trust theses people with your best company assets and they attempt to turn them against you because they are bitter about their own situation.

I think that’s done by shite trainers to get ‘the lads’ (ie trainees who may have little interest in being there or engaging) on-side. A dickhead assumption that people generally dislike/don’t have any respect for the management levels within their organisation. The thing is Rory, when you are doing stuff like this you are not operating and earning money
I do accept that we all need to invest to some degree of networking to bring in business.
Like you I have found that that looking at little (and sometimes big) screens eats into yer time
These days I tend to do networking and book keeping first thing in the morning, last thing in the evening or on a 'rain day'
Sometimes get grumpy when my smart phone pings while working with a notification.
Have to stop, take off gloves, put on reading glasses to find that it's complete bollocks.....

Latest adventure.
Video was posted the other day.... H&S consultant asking a dumper driver to stand up.
Now it's worth remembering if it was me, I'd of stood up and mooned em.
Long story short it sparked a f****ng good conversation about how to ask people, trust and green beacons..... and then King H&S consultant arrives
But there we go... if people did what they where asked we wouldn't have accidents..... Now I've been asked by a RAMS to wear a seatbelt and auto inflate life jacket in a A30C working beside a lake on a unstable haul road before.
Not enough people know there Salt. Too many people live in ignorance. And quite bluntly too many people have the heads up there arse.

I feel that your banging your head against a brick wall
These people havent got much interest beyond lining there own pockets and therefore the training agenda suits them fine
What is the largest problem that seems to be overlooked is that the construction industry is looked down as the pits
This starts from school level with teachers pushing students to the academic route and carries on with people like that treating everyone as the lowest common denominator
This has led to the industry being a dumping ground for idiots
I mean some of the blokes I meet on daily basis some quite high up the chain of command must struggle to tie there shoe laces.
Where as in days gone by the industry was self policing and there where intelligent people working who new when something was a bad idea.
Unfortunately nothing will change as we live in a country of snobs where no one wants to get there hands dirty

unfortunately when the industry was self-policing, a lot of corners were cut. Unsafe machinery, unsafe practises, cowboys running the show. That’s why there there were so many fatalities and bad injuries. Still happens, but when it does now, there’s no hiding place for the companies letting it happen.
