Never realised the 20,s carry less than the forties, weight wise

one way boxes ... a grand a piece for 20 footers is not dear 1800 quid's average for forties .... but these are bloody nice

Just shows how little stuff goes back the way when containers are one use only. I'm guessing at those prices they are fairly near the dock.

Might be dumb question...I always had in my head one way boxes aren't built as well? And they tend to get a bit of weathering and not a lot of attention? Don't want em rotting to quick?

Think you're right there ones I've seen aren't as heavy built and not as well painted. They last ok on land though as they're not as old and rusty to begin with.

I saw a programme a few years ago where a guy cut one up to get it in his garden then welded it up once it was in place. Converted it into an office or something.

Think you're right there ones I've seen aren't as heavy built and not as well painted. They last ok on land though as they're not as old and rusty to begin with.

they all have to be built to MSA (or whoever controls it now) std spec.s ...... I've seen a few of these one ways and they'm bloody tidy ... certainly better than any old multi tripper, that's been round the world a few times and has had to be retired

even with vat there cheap, last 20ft a bought was £1600 and was used.

I think a truck mounted hiab would struggle to reach far enough down the side, and to lift over gets expensive I imagine!?

When I was looking for a container last year for our self build it was £15-1600 average. Plus pay someone with a hiab to collect it. One evening I spotted a mate advertise his on Facebook for £1200..... with in seconds I had replied to say "I'l have that" he had just finished his self build literally across the road from mine I lifted it with the telehandler in one move across the road.
Best of it was I went to pay him and he said I has hoping for a grand, but expected a bit of haggling from ass holes on Facebook so he give be back a few quid

Generally the one tripper boxes/new boxes you see are a bit lighter by a 100kg or so, than an `old` one.

I'm amazed the 40 Hi-Qs're only 100 kg heavier than the GPs ...... and odd that the 20s are significantly different between the types - weight wise ... would expect the reverse .... bloody nice boxes though

I'm guessing gross weights will governed by weights for transporting on road more than boat.

almost certainly ... but IIRC every box is weighed on .. and if over the stated weight, duly charged .... a boat'll only float so much weight and you'd need to know whether you'm gonna sink or not if it's your boat !!

Yeah was thinking more from when you mentioned max gross weights of 20 and 40 ft being nearly same.

yeh ... the 40s're more for bulkier items .... doesn't take much doing to squeeze a full load into a 20 ...... I packed some injection moulders into some 20s years ago for a customer, for shipping to their parent co., in the states .... and they were bloody heavy lumps
