been a hectic day today, with one thing and another ..... josh and family arrived yesterday evening ... camping in their camper van on me patch ... ... poly tunnel makes a good base too .... fortunately been dry and pleasant here ...

Vicki, Clara and cousin Shem are literally camped on the lawn tonight ...

and granny's had a busy day ....

and drooling over all of 'em ....

and that's not to say I've had a relaxing day either .. been round this lot three times with the roller, by the time I had some brekky at 11.00 .. up and opened up for Reo by 08.00 and brought him a.n.other bag of stone down

then spent an hour having yet another juggle about, 'losing' stuff and getting my bench usable for josh's latest 'can you just' ... heard about this one on Friday last ... and no materials to deal with it ..... had a roll delivered by carrier from brundles , Tuesday morning .... and once i'd gotten the band saw and the beam's roller off the bench ... moved a dose of stone bags and bits about, to make space to relocate them, 'twas time to sort putting them somewhere
Got all that sorted ... and was time to turn my attention to Josh's latest requirements .. bearing mind he has a ferry to catch Sunday, early

Basically needs a mesh cage for the roof ..

only trouble with mesh by the roll is, you really need a roller to normalise it as it tries to escape. when you cut ties even though it's been annealed in the galvy tank ....
anyway, cut what was needed and we then had a flat length to manufacture a roof cage with.

and ended up with this, once i'd wired the corners together ....

perfect fit ....

stiffen up the edges and create a stiffener trim for them

job for the morning .... can't keep me eyes open tonight ... wrecked ..... and the kids'll be about real early

spoke to Santa this morning and booked some more loads, but he's off all week, .. which suits me fine ....... truck in for MOT ... patch migh be a bit emptier by then

I always try and stick to deciding what the max is I want to pay sticking it in as bid and leaving it alone until auction ends. Not easy to do when you want something mind. Keep an eye on ebay probably his mate bidding it up it'll be back on next week.

The problem with that vs the snipe method, is that you can be outbid by someone who sticks in a bid lower than yours.

e.g.
Item is on bids for £29
You put your bid in at £50
eBay auto bids you against previous bidder in increments and we end up at say £35
Another bidder comes in and puts in a bid of £45, thinking that will win it.
eBay auto bids you against him, and the auction is taken up to £46 with you still winning.
He then thinks, right, I'll stick in £55 and the auction goes to £51

If you did it via sniping this is what would happen;

Item is on bids for £29
Another bidder comes in and puts in a bid of £45, and the item bids up to £35 against the previous bidder.
At 5 seconds to go, your snipe comes in at £50, and then item sells for £46.

The difference here is that the last guy didn't have time to react to your £50 bid, so you outbid him and still came in under your bid.

With auctionsniper (vs doing it by hand) you'll get notifications if they detect you've been outbid - but you don't tip your hand to other bidders that you're considering the item (as they are just monitoring the bids on that item, not actually bidding at that point)

I think this is what usually happens, I bid early to stop the seller removing the item & you come in with a sniper bid in the last few seconds.

This is a good tactic, if the item has no bids If it's already got bids going on then you're good to stay clear.

I bought a camera last week off eBay, bloke emailed me today to say "Have you paid? I can't find the payment?" - it arrived two days ago - he must have been trusting!

(It turns out I had paid, but he'd put the wrong paypal email address in)

I had the maiden the bid on it at 50 quid knowing the guy'd paid over £65 for it at the auction it came from .... plus buyer's premium AND VAT so'd quite likely pull it ..... usually the seven second bid is late enough to beat any manual bidder ..... you've zero chance against the sniper as it bids at one second and in this case, based on the previous increments I'd assumed the level I was at was sufficient ..... and ALWAYS use a weird figure ... a few pence can win you the item if those coppers are a tad more than their top bid
as said... could well be a 'mate' bidding for him ..... we'll see what it re-appears at, if it WAS a mate bidding it up ..... i've pushed it before now & had it pushed for and by mates ... ..... ended up with a few items too ..... last one being 300 quidsworth ... but was after it anyway too, so no sweat ... if I'd not been pushing it, I'd probably not have got it, as there was only his bid on it 'til the last seven seconds ...

if he's hoping for that level he'll be keeping it ... more than I value it at, with only 45mm pins ...... want a 50mm set up .... then i'd be a lot more enthused

gonna be a.n.other busy day ...

it was !! didn't come in 'til 10 ... been a loong day ....
sussed the fit for this first thing and weighed up WTF I was gonna do with the top edge .....

some 25mm ERW tube'd have been nice..... slit it with a disc, drop it over it and job sorted ..... but didn't have any ... so get creative with what i did have ... new stock of CLS ... so ripped some down and .....

and got devious

worked a treat ......
several hours and several other jobs later .... including re-making some of the bed components for Josh as his missus had snapped one part this morning, sitting where she was told not to, on the edge
getting rained on for half an hour this afters, didn't help progress either .... mad rush to stow tools - rapido !! and getting stuff damp that needed a coat of shiny tish ..... hot air gun worked overtime for a while ... then pam came and finished it off

then tea got in the way ..... although i was certainly ready for it ...... followed by a spot of 'parenting' for Josh,

improvised paddling pool bath in the downstairs shower room .... rest of the house - including the bath room upstairs was out of bounds!!

so this didn't go on 'til after eight ... with the shiny tish still wet ... I looked like a zebra after catching my arms on it a dozen times .....

then had it all to put away and tidy up ..... still have squatters ... or maybe pikies, on the lawn too !! ......

not seen a lot of Reo today ... we've each been plodding on at our own tasks .... did come and pick me brains on some steel for a job he has promised to do at his sister's, next month in Diss .... any suggestions for a good steel stock holder over your way @tinydigger ? needs a couple of 152 x 89 x 16kg UBs about 5 ish M long ??

the wall however is looking lovely ..... but was a bit dark when I took these ......

@V8Druid try AJN for steel in that area, we use Industrial Metal Services here mainly, but I was on a job earlier in the year and a friend of mine was ordering the steel from AJN, he reckoned they were better on price and held massive stocks somewhere near Ipswich iirc?
