Ranger 2015 2.2 for towing

My Navara is around 28mpg on a daily run (lanes and B roads) not towing but drops dramatically if heavy towing back up around the moor. Although a recent journey with the Wacker and trailer (3 ton) an hrs commute it's was saying 21mpg avg which didn't think was too bad but perhaps a few mpg optimistic. Feel like when it's doing a job I don't care so much!

I get around 18mpg with a Ranger 2007 chipped to within an inch of it's life towing 3.5t- all small back roads and hilly A roads round here. It does pull well though.

I keep going around in circles but am yet again considering a truck of some sort…
There is no real way I can justify it from an entirely economical point of view for my work, but it would tick a lot of ‘convenience’ boxes.

yeah well they make life easy in lots of ways - crickey i wouldn't want to go back to following my transport guy with my 6/8t machine on in my landrover with a dumper on a trailer , although it was o.k an I did 10 years of it so it must of worked,bloody hard though organising drliveries of everything as opposed to getting it yourself, this job today, nowhere decent to tip so put skip on ground in field and got gravel out direct into dumper, just so much easier and faster than working around quarry deliveries, tomorrow morning going round by quarry for 10t of washed gravel for a soakaway and same, straight out of skip into trenches
works great for us.
liked my landy though, great for going skiing in but not so good for getting aggs !

i did progress to a tt126 - collected it same time as a little tractor
2007 it says

before we had a yard a tipper and several machines me and my mrs or my dad used to shovel muck away off at the tip site !

Think I was doing about 13 with this on- Colchester to Falmouth, through a storm over Dartmoor. Only weighed 1100 kg (picked off by an overhead crane with a weigh cell), plus the trailer, but it was like a giant sail.
4 tanks in 2 days

Not to be a snob, I've never bought anything with regards to its mpg, its more a case is it fit for what I want...if yes then I've bought it.

But for comparison my 2000 merc sprinter 313 was avg 26 mpg calculated properly (no trip computer on them) vs my iveco 35c16 that I bought to replace it...purely because of our caz s**t...averages 19mpg. It does exactly the same work as I did with my sprinter. Now tell me that it's all good for the environment this new stuff.

That’s because the Merc had lost half a ton to rust by then

To be fair the new Iveco will be double the horsepower of the 2000 sprinter. Thats worth the drop in mpg.

More like all the restrictive emissions shite that's fitted and the iveco weighs about 600kgs more than the sprinter did.

Both my sprinters were immaculate, it's the usual thing of just keeping them cleaned off regularly.
