The Noble Art of Digging
I did put a comparison on Ram vs. Helac in my note on Tilty selection a few weeks ago, but for the record Graham is correct in that Engcon built one of these for Bauma 2013 (Kinshofer is a German company and has had some success with these in their home market). Didn't sell - end of. If you do any sideways digging - which is one of the key benefits of having a tilty - then you will be using the breakout forces from the rams and, to put it bluntly, a helac drive just doesn't have the power. If anyone from Kinshofer is claiming that the tilting torque is equivalent to a ram-powered tilty then I'd be astounded: their website is clear enough on this point and anyone researching tilties should check the figures from all manufacturers.interesting that Steelwrist have never developed / taken this further..... might just say summat about them
and as said Engcon's version's been all but abandoned AFAIK .. 'praps Robert @Engcon UK could clarify that one ??
....... the idea is great in principle .... just doesn't cut the mustard BTLs James .. More's the pity

Helac-driven tilties do have benefits. They can be lighter, narrower and don't have rams or hoses protruding. Standard tilty manufacturers offer twin-hitch options for this. For the record, the datasheet that accompanied the Engcon helac-powered tilty is reproduced below:
