Kinshofer Nox?

Is anyone here running a Kinshofer Nox tilty?

I’m interested to know what they are like.

There’s many vids on YouTube, Gra. But they are all but useless really, it’s honest end user reviews that are lacking. Very hard to find any owner/user feedback on them.

Kinshofer talk a good talk, but at the end of the day it’s hearing from people who are actually using them that counts more.

I know James ..... 'cos they ain't popular :( ... the principle is great ... the practice is a little different I think .... don't know whether it's ppl's perceptions or actuality, but side force is supposedly limited .... that said the HPX drive is helical thrust and you'd not want to get anything you value, in the way of a set of jaws closing

they will drift ... the HPX needs check valves to keep it shut ... but then so does a ram actuated grab/clam :confused:
pure physics dictates the ram actuator will be more powerful than the helical system  .... but should one be side digging anyway :rolleyes::sneaky:

my only experience of helicals is the HPX .... based on that I would certainly take a damned good look at a NOX .... @Grahams and @doobin both have Helac helical driven tilts .... what are your impressions guys ...... there's a lot of 'contra'-hype surrounding the NOX and very few advocates as a consequence ... if you've got two services .... get a demo on one ... I'm sure Kins'd love to have an advocate banging the Kins drum:rolleyes:

Well Kinshofer will tell you that the tilting force/torque is equivalent to a ram actuated tilty. But words are just that, could just be sales patter?....and it would be nice to hear of some user experience.

As you say, not sure digging sideways is that important or advisable? But its no good if it will not hold itself in a set position while making a ‘cut’.

The HPX has been on my wish list for a long time, and would be ideal under any tilty I think. But my interest in the Nox has been sparked, particularly as the solution kinshofer are offering is a good bit more compact and a fair chunk lighter than others.

Don't complain - suggest what's better
I had a powertilt before I got a tiltrotator and that is the same mechanism. It was good, but not great. It would not tilt under load and would creep as pressure were applied.
Saw the above at Hillhead, but the operator wasn't up to Duckgirl standards and it didn't have an oil quick system, so it wasn't that impressive compared to other demos I've seen. Unfortunately never come across someone with one to ask what they thought.
With regards to digging sideways, it is surprising how often I do that now I can rather than moving the machine.

Thanks Graham

Interesting feedback over the lack of tilting power. It’s certainly not what kinshofer are saying....
I do wonder if the new ones are better than the older models though? Same idea, but have they improved it somehow to mix it with the big names in the tilty world?
It would be nice to hear from an owner of the latest Nox, but that’s probably too much to hope for, as they seem to be thin on the ground.

been keeping my eye open for quite some time James for a suitable Helac hitch for a MkII VA-r ..... they too are thin on the ground:( ... Engcon all but abandoned their helical tilt efforts, but there are a few others about
..... HKS .. PDF below

Hill Eng. ......

There's another too but can't recall their name ATM :(

and Liebherr have their own 'answer' to the issue too

I don't care what colour of tiltrotator anyone is talking about........ you need rams. Been told they gave a big push on sales outside of Scandinavia at the minute because they can't sell any out there and have all but pulled out of the market.

interesting that Steelwrist have never developed / taken this further ;) ..... might just say summat about them  and as said Engcon's version's been all but abandoned AFAIK .. 'praps Robert @Engcon UK could clarify that one ?? ;) ....... the idea is great in principle .... just doesn't cut the mustard BTLs James .. More's the pity :( :(

couple of better pix of the Liebherr solution with a horizontal ram set and linkage to the upper carriage ;)

but are they any narrower than a conventional ram set up ??

Also looks like if there was any wear in that linkage in the front then it would flop about like a prick in a shirtsleeve
one for the memory banks James :LOL:.... interesting tolerance that :giggle: .... not quite as bad a fit as a bucket  :ROFLMAO:

Is the build height greater with that Helac style actuator? I was interested in the Kinshofer because we do so much bush work you don't want to have to repack cylinder seals all the time. The tilt bucket I use regularly has been through a few hoses and will need one of the tilt cylinders 'resealed' over the winter. At least with a powertilt or Kinshofer things are a little more 'tucked' away. And the powertilt's seem to be the standard on the majority of Spider excavators here or over there. I looked in to the Kinshofer tilty's a few months ago and the pricing is fairly comparable against Eng Con and Steelwrist they do have a Oilquick type option as well. I'm still trying to convince the boss to get a tilty but I'll have a better chance at convincing Trudeau that there is no such thing as anthropogenic climate change.
