Electric vehicles

The new ranger reeks of cost cutting, crappy wet belt engine is no longer available later this year and all of them have issues with rear pads, mixture of electric handbrake, adaptive cruise and auto hold means people have been going threw a set of inner pads before 20k.
I only use speed limiter and very rarely use the handbrake, the only times I ever do is when I need to hook up to the trailer and the damn pickup rolls forward once you put it in park.
All stuff I don't want nor need.

Hand brake in my iveco hasn't been applied in 6 years, except for mot or when it went back for warranty work/recall.

My 7t iveco which is 13 years old has auto hold, not a fan it drags/delays too much. Its not like its hard to do a hill start...and somthing that we used to be tested on before we was given a licence.

I keep the locking wheel nut key just in front of the electric handbrake lever in the D4 to stop me using it by mistake 😆 🤣 If it seizes 'off' that's an MOT time problem, iff it seizes 'on' that's a how do I get home problem 😆

Haha. I like that solution. Although I've sacked my locking nuts off, especially after my previous land rover situation.

Quite an interesting looking thing, lots of old defender parts in there!

But why the hell are councils buying things like that??
Surely they should be buying base spec vehicles from manufacturers/dealers that can supply the whole range- tippers, flatbeds, vans of whatever sizes, tow vehicles etc to get some bulk buying power!! Maybe a few electric runarounds if they really have to, but not 80k pick up thingys from a company that does nothing else ffs 🤦🏻🤦🏻
Spending other peoples money to look green....🤬
All just a brain washed eco obsession.
Local ambulance service got some as well.
I'd be pretty pissed if they ran out of juice on the way to someone having a heart attack. Pathetic.

I do like @JD450A idea of starting a new manufacturing outfit. Just to keep in simple, stick with a 300tdi diesel and a discovery 1 chassis and auto box. Build around that!!
Oh….hang on….someone did try!!
I saw one of those the other day!

They have changed the seat in the current invincible X and I cannot get comfy in them. Plus they have all the stupid lane assist you can no longer turn off. I was offered one of the current hybrid hiluxs as a work truck but have kept my older one and the hybrids are pool trucks. They are supposedly identical but just don't seem right to me. Plus the hybrid has worse fuel consumption and worse acceleration than the standard 2.8.
that's :poop::poop: it's a horrible gadget that I turn off instantly ... in the lanes here it has no idea WTF it's supposed to be doing and keeps diving left/right -- 's a big off waiting to happen - specially if the road's a bit slick

Have they even got use for it? It's crazy money but 110 commercial defenders start at 64k.
Looking more into the muro they are based on the ibex 4x4 which apparently uses/used a lot of original defender parts, the mileage isn't great on the munro but it's essentially as stripped back as the original defender just with a touchscreen. They seem to reckon on a 30 year lifespan on the vehicle, relying on replacement modular batteries/motors. 5 year/100k on the vehicle and 8 year/100k on the battery
and WTF is a battery replacement gonna cost - times 3 or 4 changes :oops::oops: ... if they're still about in 8 years time ... if you're a high mile-er it could be every two years FFS

Probably half the cost of a new alternate vehicle, EV full is just full of pure fantasy, the initial cost is mental and they justify it saying it would outlast a few diesels due to the effort in the chassis to last 30+ years and the "cheap" replacement parts but reality is as soon as the battery goes your stuck with 10-20k of bill for a battery or scrapping unless batteries suddenly drop in value

" Ten years since the company formed, the mad lads at McMurtry Automotive are bringing the record-setting Spéirling Pure hypercar to life. It's going into production at an all-new manufacturing facility in Wotton-under-Edge, England, and the first one is set to be handed over to a lucky owner before the end of 2026. ..... it costs £995,000 " plus taxes
