‘When I hear “My accountant told me to buy it”, usually the accountant was begging them not to.’ - Told to me by my accountant when I asked him why he wasn’t telling me to buy a Shogun/Patrol/Range Rover like everyone else’s accountants seemed to be.

I worked with a bloke on the Spalding bipass in the early 90’s. He had a year-old Cat 215 and turned up in a brand new Shogun. He was telling me he was the luckiest bloke alive, had almost paid for the 215 in a year and his accountant had told him to spend some money before the end of the year. Two weeks later the 215 had gone back to Levertons, he’d gone bust and disappeared.

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
My old accountant says your spending a pound to save 20p
well that depends on your tax bracket :giggle:
and often better to spend and have the money's worth than give it to the blood suckers ...
premises maintenance is also 100% tax deductible, looks bloody great in palisade form ;):) and keeps the tea leaves at bay (mostly) :giggle:

I saw the post but unless I'm missing something how do you lease something and add £24,629 of fake income?
Is he trying to say he leased it and the cost of the lease he added as income?
I'm not ltd so not read up too much on company cars but surely he just pays extra bik
Plus the math isn't mathing for costing him 38k every year

Did you get any good tax breaks when you sold up @V8Druid ? There's entrepreneurs relief nowadays but not sure how it all works id bet you'd have to sell the company as well as any assets/premises

entrepreneur's relief did help, but IMHDO taper relief, which it'd replaced, may have been slightly better. ...
also dealt with a big tranche a few years earlier on IHT and CGT on my mother's estate (which the bloody accountant had forgotten about - 'til I reminded him of the fact  - my calc.s and his were a world apart, up 'til that point :rolleyes:o_O)
never rely on your accountant to be 'up to speed' / on the ball  ... " Oh yes - so we did !! - wondered how you'd arrived at your figures?? ":censored:

I took it that the bik on the car must be included for calculations towards child support and childcare.
I know if you have young kids and are on salary breaking the £100,000 a year mark costs you about that in lost child support and childcare.

Quite simple, BIK counts as income as such is taxed as income, all he needs to do is up his salary sacrifice to zero out the extra bik and he’ll get all his benefits back, the attention seeking whore!
