if it was an actual fault with the truck it would be easy to stomach because it certainly earns its keep but when its just some half baked cockup bolted on the exhaust its rather annoying.
lad in garage said gendarmes are disabling adblue on the forces véhicules because its too unreliable I mean wtf

I think Mercedes uses its own system where a lot of the other buy in from the likes of Bosch, which helps a little spares prices.
Boiling the nozzle in water can sometimes unblock them

invoice says dosing unit 1400€ injector nozzle and pipe 85€ - tank is 3/4 full of 2 year old adblue so i guess the lot might need flushing

If you are going through such little adblue it might be worth asking them to put just enough in to register and topping up a litre on a more regular basis as it can go off.

there has been a fault with it for a fair while but up until now i could reset the diagnostic on the dash and it would stay off long enough for the test, now it wont reset, hence v old adblue in tank,old iveco had adblue problems too, also dealer said replace the lot, but i found a cracked pipe within the pump and sorted for 100€ not going to be so fortunate this time i dont think ...

Got my adblue repair quote in today ...

My adblue system pops errors about every 20~24 months.
When it flags an error, I poke a hose into the tank and suck as much as I can.
Then I add 4~6 litres of distilled water, slosh it about and suck as much out again.
Then just fill with fresh adblue

So far, this procedure has saved all discussion with dealers etc.

Edit: I also needed to use an ODB-2 adapter to clear the error - after that, it has been good.

I have just become aware that all the snake oil sellers now have an "adblue crystal preventer" additive. Not tried it yet

I had an Amazon driver turn up in the field I was working at the other day. Was dark and I was just shutting digger down- hed wedged his van into the hedge (stone faced bank) on a 25% hill next to where I was working- could barely stand on it for slipping no way I was backing the truck down there to pull him out so tracked the digger down- when I hit the ice it took off like a rocket, blade down made no difference so shoved bucket in the hedge to stop myself! Took me 45 mins to get him and myself back up the hill, as soon as you took bucket up to reposition it started sliding again!

Done similar afew times on the 3cx… sliding down hill with front bucket down, had to swing back actor out afew times and grab the verge! My argument for seat mounted joysticks remained valid! Never fancied snow clearing on a tractor after the first episode!

Many years ago as a young man 16/17 over confident in big John Deere set off with empty dump trailer down our rural track on hill with 4 inches snow.

Had to rub wheel against dry stone wall and banking to stop and extract seat from clench bum

Was ice under it and lethal

Dad did similar in 9 ton Takeuchi on rubbers 2 years ago sledging time

Creeping down slowing on tickover thinking ‘slow and steady does it’. Next thing you know one wheel is spinning backwards and the other looks stopped yet the tractor is going a lot faster than 18mph!

2 years later I was living in Munich where it snowed early October and didn’t thaw till march! Big lesson in snow ice driving, had English golf on summer tyres for 6 weeks until German work mate noticed and sorted me one snow tires. Night and day but that 6 weeks before snow tires taught me a lot, remember one night being on a busy autobahn in 10 inches of snow trying to follow a truck ploughing a furrow in a snow storm not fun lol couldn’t change lanes or anything

Many years ago I managed to park an old Massey Ferguson 590 and tanker through a stone garden wall in a Derbyshire village while slurry carting, it was a very surreal experience as one min I'm driving down the road, next it just slid almost 90 degrees sideways, the camber on the road was that bad I went in almost parallel to the road, I was joined a moment later by the local double decker bus who slid on the exact same patch of black ice, and luckily ended up rested against the tractor, safe to say me and the bus driver took a few moments to remove ourselves from our seats.

Good memories when no one is hurt. I remember doing a pirouette with a Mk3 escort estate and a trailer on ice. Bad enough anything on ice, add a trailer and it really spices things up

Don’t mind driving in the snow generally. Back in the day used to go out on the back lanes playing in cars and Suzuki jeeps. I run winter or all season tyres over the winter months to try and lower the risk of problems.

Years ago had a 50p/20p arse moment in a big old 2wd Massey 1080, brakes on and slowly sliding sideways. That moment where you have no control and have to hope the verge stops you!

@Stroppymonkey, yeah the only thing hurt was mine and the bus drivers pride and the smallest of scratches on the side of the bus as it came to rest. the police man that turned up just laughed and said it looks like we both wanted the rest of the day off, and decided to park up in the garden. I managed to drive out without any further damage, then chucked a strop on the bus and pulled him out as well, this was the days when people just wanted stuff sorting and didn't care about hse and faffing about with towing companies etc

black ice is the worst .. don't know it's there, 'til you're rotating ... spun my first SD, early 80s on a huge sheet of it ... fortunately late at night on a wide 3 lane road ... triple falco ... never touched a thing ... dropped it into cog and wenton my merry way - carefully!!
late 70s/early 80s we got plenty of practice at snow driving though .. and you learn quick

first year we were here we had sooome dump and the drive was like the Cresta run .... was stopped at the crest of our steepest bit in the D1, brakes applied, considering my best line down it, when we were suddenly 'on the move' wheels locked

edge of the tar grabbed the N/S front, then the rear and we slid down the length of a barbed wire fence listening to the horrendous 'graunching' noise as the barbed gouged the N/S of the disco ..... not a single thing I could do .. other than ride it out and try to regain control of the steering when it popped back onto the tar, eventually ... all in slo mo

worst 'snow run' ever was Hindhead in Surrey, back to Aber., boxing day '77 or '78 - can't recall which ... usually a 2-3/4hr trip -- took nigh on 7 hours .. was the only car on the M4 - ferk knows how we managed it .. the A roads to the M4, Surrey end were something else -- so was the M4 -- Hillman Hunter Holbay GLS - it did well that day --- young and nuts
