Is the backhoe loader a thing of the past?

Mine was s**t on the back end at 90 degrees however I placed the front bucket. Embarassing how I couldn’t even ditch with it.
There a drivers machine :ROFLMAO:

Certian backhoes do certian things, the old 655/555 had axle stops on the front arm that would effectively lock the axle when down. Great for stability although the whole machine somewhat comprimised by a FKN great lump on the arse.

Terex does'nt have that, however the arm is made of arts and craft supplies and hope so theres not much weight there whatsoever and it's pretty good FOW even slinging dumpies about.
Personally FOW duties on backhoes aren't something I'd reccomend or seek a machine out for. Much better bits of kit for that sort of work.

Yeah I get that they are a drivers machine… I could balance the whole thing on the tipping point with ease but it doesn’t change the fact that there’s a tipping point that stopped me doing basic tasks that a 3.5t slew machine would do easily over the same radius.

Whats FOW?

When I had my NH110 when ditching I never had the backhoe on full offset the machine felt more stable that way, I hired the machine out to someone who used it on full offset with the extender hoe fully out and the legs not fully down, You can guess what happened ( He had to pay me a lot of money for repairs for the damage he caused) needless to say I don't hire my Terex 860 out unless its with me in the seat. Funnily enough when I first did ditching for a chap with a brand new grey cab 3cx it was quite a stable machine compared to The NH110 which does have a pretty heavy back end on it compared to the Terex is which is not too bad either.

I get all this 'fow' stuff although that's a totally new saying to me.

Yes bobbing about dishing semi dry out for kerbers, Yes, but come one who's actually doing full stretch a full capacity.

Dual drive is new, I've only ever known using levers over rear seat.

If you had to spin the seat you might as well put a leg or 2 down.

And at that point if you needed to move you'd walk it as you go.

Or is that just me?

With my easy control 3cx I could operate the backend while facing forwards.. could run grab a bucket of whatever and tip it out where required at full speed… something tells me your not going to be bombing around while rear facing using duel drive? I guess it has a speed lockout?

Saw Ollie’s little video of him with kerb lifter on the other day using duel drive.. great but the 2ton mini would of been more economical while laying them straight on the bed, more so for my kind of work as I’m in and out of the cab constantly, days of me turning up to work alongside a gang of groundworkers and sitting in the cab all day are long gone!! 🤪

Duel drive is a wonderful concept which has been around over 15 years now(those who knew Luke of the old forum may remember he had one on demo from Sweden with duel drive setup and steelwrist) my old easy control setup just worked, was fast and had minimal sensors to bugger up! (And cost half the price!) you know it’s complicated when they have to put a video which is accessible from within the cab dash screen on how to use the thing!!

Sounds like I bought totally the wrong backhoe for my work.

What’s the point in trying to use one for ditching if you can’t work at 90 degrees so you can drive or push yourself along parallel?

I'll just throw out another opinion.

Using large machines on FOW duties for pissing about pushing concrete and kerbs out or backfilling is inherently more dangerous than using a smaller 360' in the same role. Lots of People plant interface issues and visibility risks.

As much as I love Ollie. The video for me of doling kerbs out with a more than capable mini excavator sat there speaks volumes.
