Not in Cheshire it hasn’t - was too dry and so no bulk to the grass in the later cuts (maize growth has been similar). That’s why a lot of people are getting as much in now as they can - feed prices are high due to everyone being short of their own stuff.yep - the green stuff sure has grown well this year for sure
Yep I've a feeling Lancashire will be exporting this yearNot in Cheshire it hasn’t - was too dry and so no bulk to the grass in the later cuts (maize growth has been similar). yeh I know just not that pressing, but not forgotten.About that.....![]()
Give us a shout if you need boiler help.. I have a logged a couple of hours on themGot to meet and have an extensive conversation with Dr Ransford, before signing anything this morning- had his 'bedside manner' head on today and was charming - explained why his previous attempt had failed and what he was hoping to achieve today.
Apparently there's a small valve in the duodenal wall which they use for access to the biliary and pancreatic ducts... by all accounts mine is exceptionally smalland even after making an incision in it he struggled to get his gear through it and then still failed to get beyond the duct which was enflamed -- he was hoping for a better outcome today
Said the valve size doesn't surprise me - nothing with my anatomy does any more -
1:1,250,000 chance of inheriting Gaucher's - and I did-
so what's the odds on all sorts of other tish -
he smiled and said he'd give it his best efforts.
The procedure second time around is no better than the first, as you know what's coming-
told 'em to knock me out straight away, once they'd confirmed anaesthesia to the throat -
did they buggery..
spent ten minutes, lying face down, thinking/feeling like I'm choking, watching them set up (and start this thing down my throat) -
at which point I got agitated enough for 'em to zap me(just can't help it when you think you're choking!!)
woke up at 14.15 in recovery - couple of cups of coffee and three triple packs of ginger nuts later (no chicken sarnies today) and felt a bit more 'me' -
at which point Pam showed up and we got told today's efforts were an equal failure
so - back again at some point for a.n.other MRI to see what the score is (wanted to do an ultra-sound, which I refused point blank - told 'em the last US put me on a ward, for 6 days with pancreatitis, in 2020) -
we'll see what happens??
Home by 15.45 after a detour 'en route' to Wolselys for some ignition electrodes for the Grant (giving weird 'heat related' issues on secondary start up when hot).....
job for the morning
too wrecked to go pratting with it tonight
New phone picked up their wireless very easily, sat waiting and gave me summat to do whilst I sat for two an' a half hrs., 'anticipating' the forthcoming 'session'

thanks Ben - have narrowed this issue down to three things ..Give us a shout if you need boiler help.. I have a logged a couple of hours on them![]()
Which boiler do you have ? Control PCB is almost impossible to cause burner lockout.thanks Ben - have narrowed this issue down to three things ..
my thinking is that the fault is affected by the boiler having reached temperature and then shut down .. either :-
the electrodes are becoming hot (and expanding/moving) to the point that the gap is too large and are unable to arc,
the ignition tranny is overheated and not performing/providing sufficient output to create an arc
or
the main control board has a temperature sensitive fault.
Electrodes're the cheapest start point at 17 quid (never been renewed as far as I know and are 17+ yrs old)
tranny is over 170 quid
control board - I haven't even gone there - yet
after reaching working temp., it locks out on any subsequent restart attempts, until it has physically cooled down to almost nowt.
If the boiler is running (happily) and the prog. changes, or I shut it down by dropping the temp. setting, it will usually re-start if I up the thermo.,s setting - until it reaches working/set temp. and then, again, locks out on any subsequent restart attempts (as above) .
It is p*ssing me off ATM - again
I have a friend's son (in his 30s and is a heating installer/engineer/etc.) who has a rep as being pretty bloody good at Grants - he agrees with me that an intermittent fault is an utter bar steward to trace ('til summat fails)
Riello RDB 2.2 - Grant Vortex Combi 26Which boiler do you have ? Control PCB is almost impossible to cause burner lockout.
Temp related lock out on a 2.2 Riello RDB burner will be (roughly in order)
Oil pump (notoriously weak)
Capacitor (new ones are s**t)
Photocell (second weakest part)
Solonoid coil (VERY rare)
Control box (bullet proof)
Corroded blast tube ? (Rare)
Seizing motor bearings.. but you’d hear that
I very much doubt it’s electrodes.. usually bullet proof

I’ve got about 20+ of those burners on the pallet racking .. can dig out a decent control box for you to swap out if you want . Got to the stage where I skip them weekly now :-(Riello RDB 2.2 - Grant Vortex Combi 26
Pump putting out the recommended 8bar - checked myself after replacing the pressure adjusting screw 'O' ring seal due to going hard and weeping - end of March View attachment 75999
brand new motor and solenoid fitted circa April '23 after a bearing seizure
just changed the photocell a week or so ago after suspecting that to be breaking down at high temps
fuel shut off solenoid (and spindle) changed earlier this year
blast tube is fine - been out earlier this year - new seals fitted to burner and mount plate - new nozzle fitted same time
control box??? where everything plugs into ?? and where the ign coil lives
it literally performs faultlessly from cold and kicks in out - 'til it gets to circa 17/18+C
after that temp it'll try to re-light, can 'hear' the ign coil click, click, clicking for say 30 seconds then locks out
will have the burner out tomorrow and change the electrodes (and obviously check the air gap in what's in there (4mm +/- 0.3mm) )
As Jack said to me - he could come look at it half a dozen times and still not find an intermittent fault![]()

Might take you up on that offer if all else fails - thank youI’ve got about 20+ of those burners on the pallet racking .. can dig out a decent control box for you to swap out if you want . Got to the stage where I skip them weekly now :-(
Still most likely to be the fuel pump binding when hot.. made of cheese. leave a pressure gauge on it and watch it through some cycles?
New capacitor in 2023 doesn’t mean much, since covid we regularly see them fail within first 12-24 months on new boilers, whereas my MILs was still working well from 1992!
No need to.. I’ve got an old condensing Grant vortex and a load of old rads set up in stores. Running off waste oil . Much more efficient and I think quite a bit saferMight take you up on that offer if all else fails - thank you
WOW
great idea - will try that ......... got a brand new pump here in a box - could give it a try if there's any pressure fluctuations
can well believe it - got the one off the old motor I could try for starters, but the motor runs up fine ---
goes through the motions of firing up, just doesn't light which makes me suspicious of the ign system
ever thought about making some w/shop space heaters out of 45 drums with a blown burner in one end and a tall chimney? or double stack them for extra heat box radiation ?

what sort of nozzle does that need?No need to.. I’ve got an old condensing Grant vortex and a load of old rads set up in stores. Running off waste oil . Much more efficient and I think quite a bit safer![]()
Depends what it’s burning .. normally on filtered Kero. Just currently finishing off the last of a few thousand litres of dirty Therma35 we recovered back in 2019.what sort of nozzle does that need?![]()
