Really unimpressed after today. First time towing and first motorway run, struggling up inclines at 45mph.

Good town truck basically but the engine is crap. Would have preferred the 3l but they're rare.
What's it like comfort wise? I think they are a smart bit of kit, surprised it was so bad on fuel towing, maybe as it was a short journey it was cold and not fully warmed up so running rich?

It was a motorway run which would normally be a good thing but I reckon it really suffers due to the bluff front. That route is mostly uphill too, it was definitely better on the way back. It's showing 23mpg long term on the trip computer.

Comfort wise not great, but I'm ok with it. Very different experience to a normal van.

They are a good bit of kit and I think it will be fine for most of my work but today was disappointing to say the least!

They aren't the most amazing engine but if yours is out of warranty it can be chipped. The same engine in the dmax is 175hp.
They also have to be run at high revs which takes a lot of getting use to after driving older bigger diesels.
6 months warranty left before I can think about it, let's hope I have the patience to make it until then.

I'm surprised it's downrated that much, can't understand why?

TBF we have 3 running at 7t every day and never hear the lads complain about power.
They would all rather have the transit double cabs as the seat reclines at lunch time but that seems to be the only complaint. And the overnight servicing is spot on.

My 14 ton beavertail loaded is doing 10.8 mpg.
The 8 wheel hooklift with the drawbar trailer on loaded is doing about 7 mpg, I have just put new liners & shells in the engine & chipped abit but haven’t worked the mph out again but it does pull well up the hills now

I go back and forth about going back to a tipper, didn't realise they would be so bad on fuel, but would be handy to have more usable space on the pack, could technically have the 3t on the trailer and still carry a tracked dumper or two on the tipper and still be under wight or borderline, but today would have resulted in being stuck in the field, ranger is right back by the houses could have took it further in but trial holes at the first field and the rest in between

I'm surprised it's just me finding it slow, maybe I'm just being fussy! I was only running at 6t too.

Yeah twin wheel.

Don't get me wrong they aren't going to win any prizes. But they go well enough. As said you do have to adjust your driving style and rev them higher than you would an older diesel. But I've found that with a few things. Even the 2.4l Hilux has to be driven far higher in the rev range than the older ones.

Our Movano Twin Wheel wagon wouldnt do over 20mpg even empty, and I was never brave enough to check it when running full (or overloaded) with heavy trailer.

You cannot use a dash guage to calc fuel consumption. They just don’t have the accuracy. Brim to brim / miles is only way .
Have to put my hands up and say you were right. Brimmed it today as I wanted to know the actual figure, can't believe how far out the guage is. Even the trip computer is pessimistic.

Suddenly I feel much better about the truck 🙂
