Freelander....did u do hairdressing the weekends ?
Harsh…..if you saw my hair you would realize no one would trust be with a pair of scissors on there hair.
The freelander was a very useful tool for what I needed at the time. Something that gave me 4x4 on the sites I was doing. Not as hard core as a discovery or defender or even the Trooper. Shame they never that low ratio. Driving one was the most car like compared to those 3 mentioned. Soft roader is a tag that it wore well!!

the original Freelander was destined to be 2/FWD ...
Charlie Hodna launched their little four by (whatever it was called) a few months earlier and LR threw the Freelander at Ashcroft and said make it 4WD - QUICK ...
he came up with a transfer to graft to an axle he'd been given for the job and the rest is history.
LR didn't ask for a Low ratio and you could also buy a FWD only version at one time

You had me scratching my head about the FWD version. That was only added in 2008 when the F2 was out. If @Furniss wants to throw hairdresser comments at the F1. I raise him a FWD Evoque. That is a proper hair dresses car.
Who ever sees ANY Evoque and says….”look at that lovely Range Rover!!!!”
The evoque is the start of everything wrong at JLR. How can ANY Evoque even be mentioned in the same sentence as Range Rover. How can anyone at JLR think any FWD vehicle can be mentioned as a Land Rover. Talk about alter your target market.
As Rory @JD450A said earlier. Make a pick up that doesn’t have all the bells and whistles and someone will stumble into a sales list of many construction and utility users. The change in BIK rules makes that prospect more likely surely?

Like it or not it's actually the direct opposite
Just take a look at their numbers
However much we hate it they are phenomenally successful at what they do
I should have said. The start of everything wrong “for commercial users” at JLR.
They have indeed successfully moved the bar for the consumer users.
I am a big fan of older LR products. I will keep my 2006 Range Rove Sport going for as long as I can. But the reliability and tech issues of the newer models means it is most likely my last.

the mk1 also came with a pissy little engine in the FWD version - not many about, but they were there - had a mate who had one, who tried to flog it to me, 'til I realised its 'credentials':(
did you know they also put a 2 ltr, T series motor in the D1 .. as popular as a fart in a space suit, but I have seen one - engine looks lost in the engine bay

" A 2.0-litre petrol engine from the Rover stable was briefly available in a model known as the 2.0-litre Mpi I4. This was intended to attract fleet managers, since UK (and Italian) tax laws benefitted vehicles under 2.0 litres. A combination of changes in taxation and lack of power for such a heavy vehicle led to the demise of this engine, despite its fitting to several Discoveries supplied to the British royal family. One of these was notably driven by Prince Philip around Windsor Great Park, in his position as Park Ranger. " :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I just don't think the numbers are there for a non bells and whistle motor. Landrover et al can add a few luxuries and extras on at relatively little cost to themselves but charge double for the vehicle- that's where the profit is for them. Making a fancy free truck won't have the same cream on top for them. Plus most tradesman I see are ostentatious types anyway so want all the add ons. The amount of us wanting pure basic work vehicles are relatively low I'd think.

All the old land rovers I've had have been good to me over the last 15 years to be fair but same wouldn't get anything newer.

There is a cut off around 2006, in the co2 brackets so as long as that remains then ie highest bracket is K (£415) for anything 01 to 06 and the L and M are higher brackets (£710 and £735) for 06 to 17.

Pre 01 is class still as plg and tax at either £210 or £345 depending if its 1.6l engine or over.

That's 12mths rate.

So come April it should rise in line with rpi and no big jumps.

Lots of what's heard about big jumps only applies to new vehicles.

Only thing is that the zero tax band ends on older cars so the likes of my Toyota iq will jump from £0 to £20. Basically band a is done away with and band b will be the new minimum
