Thinking on the simple easy to understand Tafe range, I wondered what else India may offer & remembered the maker BEML
Seems to be based on older Komatsu model? Direct Drive with all clutches & brakes oil immersed. (as in some 951s post 1964)
I also seem to remember a simple older tech 5 ton spider hoe - looked like earlier Kaiser - Kamo X3 or a bit like Smalley 10 - cannot find just now

I think the Tafe is pretty decent. Sub 20k for a useable small tractor with quicke loader and 4WD. Should be infinitely repairable. Mind you an 8 hour shift would be a long day on it ! but we all used to do it on kit like that once .. and beats walking behind a horse!

Grey cab though
... built with rot installed at the factory .... too many double/triple sandwich layers, that never saw paint and trap moisture -- if that was a black cab it'd be sweet

Honestly, no. Multione is quicker for front bucket tasks by virtue of speed and agility. As for moving, I just send the lorry driver a what three words, he keeps a key.Not even a little bit!

If backhoes are a thing of the past, here's some from their heyday.
I love a classic machine, but having a quick play with a very nicely restored example, makes me realise that its only nostalgia that makes me think machines were better back then. If I've got to go to work, the latest models with their creature comforts and ease of use are hard to turn away.
But I would love to have this grey cab in my collection just to admire - its still a great looking machine
