if you want to weld with gas you will need Oxy/DA (acetylene) - if just cutting / heating Oxy /Propane will suffice, but no where near as much heat from the propane flame as from a DA flame - if you need 'BIG' heat, with a pepper pot nozzle it will have to be DA - a 3mm Propane nozzle will however heat a fair area, but slower. Shop around your area as there are privateers who supply gases without rentals on the cylinders ..
all the big players BOC, Air Liquide, Air Products, etc. charge like wounded rhinos for both gases and rentals
the gear is cheap enough to buy these days, compared to say 20 years ago, when it was not a cheap game - but the gasses have become eye-wateringly dear in comparison.

cheap enough kit for infrequent usage - 10m hoses are the min. length ideally - trying to use anything much shorter is a PITA
the same kit assembled from BOC or Murex kit would cost you 4 times as much at least
