Kobelco was always nice too... the auld fella nearly bought an SK60 before he bought the EX60.I always thought the Ex60-5 punched well above its weight. I am pretty impressed with the Kobelco. This is also a conventional boom rather than a king post. I guess that helps with lifting and balance.
I’ve been scouring eBay as my hope is to be able to do this with modlel airplane gear if I can. I think a switch and a PWM motor speed controller might do this somehow.Would a radio remote from a model aircraft work for proportional controls? Not robust like the wireless controls found on Hiabs but depends what yoyu are after... Obviously you'd have to take the outputs from the receiver that usually drive servo motors and translate that using an Arduino and a mosfett driver board to allow you to drive the solenoids directly.
eBay might just have the answer for such a project without all the above complexity and a built in safety stop....

The problem is I need to open a 24v solenoid operated switching valve as soon as the joy stick is moved from centre and then need the proportional valve to start to open and feed oil as the stick is moved further. The next problem is that I need to open a separate solenoid switched valve when the stick is moved back from centre but follow this with opening the same proportional valve as on the forward movement.
Any ideas how this can be done with off the shelf gear? I would like to try and avoid the need to use custom built electronics if I can as this is beyond my current abilities and I have a job coming up for this in feb so don’t have time to learn Arduino use etc.
The hydraulics on the machine are 3 phase electric and I currently have it running of a VFD. The VFD has a facility for external operation so connecting a remote emergency stop in to that should be fairly straight forwards.
Any help or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Sounds like @CPS has options for you to consider. Aiden, are the controllers radio controlled and if so what sort of range can they cover?I can provide proportional controllers which will do exactly what you want.... only thing is youd need one for each function..
Totally. Hate using kingpost machines after being on my case cx75. To be honest that's what I imagined would be used for creating 24VDC, but a decent quality switch mode should have the necessary components to reduce noise, could also house away from the RF antenna which I'd expect to be mounted well away from noise on the exterior of the machine. The receiver would be shielded anyway so just need a good cable running between the two. The use of 2.4Ghz frequency might not be the best bet? A very busy frequency band, liable for noise? Distance reached by lower frequencies isn't an issue more just transmitter power that limits the range, I'm betting most remotes work at between 27 - 900Mhz, exceptions being 2.4 and 5 GHz. Drone controllers and trying to adapt to a custom rig sounds more complex to me than what you appear to be wanting? Plenty of 'off the shelf' systems about that will acheive what you are looking for without spending mega bucks. They usually come with software that can be tailored to your needs. I have the 24v system hard wired at the moment so I can prove the architecture of the system. It’s running from a simple transformer, bridge rectifier and smoothing capacitor hooked to the input on the VFD. It’s a bit ugly so I’ll probably use a cheap switch mode supply in the next build. One thing I’m a bit worried about is some cheap Chinese switch mode supplies are a bit noisy with RF emissions that might interfere with the control circuit.

The final use for this will be watching from several hundred meters away. This is why I have been looking towards 2.4ghz drone type operating systems.

The plan to solve that problem is to fly a cheep drone in and land it near where the robot machine will be working to have a video feed back to the robot control point. Depending upon terrain a radio controlled model car or something with tracks might also work to carry the cameras.gonna need some good binoculars then![]()
