I haven't had a bad payer in 30 years ,with payments ranging from 20 quid to 200 grand

I had very little in my time, but there seems to be quite a lot of traders taking to FB and YT telling many tales of non-payers. Some get hit on time after time and you do wonder why, there will be various reasons.
Some will take on any job for anyone and some are a bit more cautious. It can be that they're desperate for work (greedy?) so take on risks. I always see a deal between two people (customer and contractor) as something which has to work well for both, a lot of punters don't realise this. They think they can treat you as they wish and you'll bend over and take it. Maybe as the more desperate do.

Recently I was asked to price up this that and the other and then he wanted my private number so he could ring me at his leisure. I'd already answered some questions with that what he was proposing wouldn't work, so let it lie a couple of days as I was busy. He responded with 'Given your lack or response I take it you're not interested, but i'll take this and that and can you give me prices on these?'
I couldn't really see a good business relationship forming with that kind of attitude so early on so told him to go shop elsewhere.
His response was erased before I read it, I don't need that kind of crap in my life. I know good and bad customers straight away and would always go that extra mile for the good ones.

There are a lot of homeowners moaning that they can't get builders to turn up and price up, sometimes to look at a job initially and then never again after the first meeting. Not one of them seems to think that the guy smelled something bad, but were too polite/busy/non-confrontational to say anything.

I gave someone a budget cost she asked for before Christmas. No real information said 12k but could be less or more. That's expensive she replied I can buy x for 3.5k leaves 8.5k labour. Well it is a budget cost continued quizzing me phoned her then mond before Christmas as I was nearby to have a look and no answer!

I could generally spot a w⚓ at a thousand yards ... and gave them no chance to p*ss me off ... as said - for the good customers, would always treat them well, but never suffered fools
was less costly to be idle, than a busy fool, who'd not get paid.
fortunately it was rare to be really quiet.

I shall give one or 2 a go at some point …. Couple of my employees could easily have off road charging and don’t do big miles and don’t tow.
New prices still mental though
I did consider it…. Then realised if I wanted to do a 100mile round trip I’d have to recharge mid way….!! Which is just never going to happen on current infrastructure!

Littler vans have a better range, and it’s extremely rare that we work outside of a 15 mile radius . As said before …I don’t think the world is ready for a 3.5T leccy van yet

ran around in anything reliable for years ..
usually SD1s or old Grannies ... (like a big car) ..
soon as I started running RRs (even classic historics) it was -- I must've be charging too much :(--
whereas, prior to those, folk used to say "why don't you have a newer car? " ....
was a no win situation, even when I mostly turned up in a boiler suit :(

Yes I can imagine it did, turning up in the Silver Shadow like that :ROFLMAO:

was reading somewhere yesterday ...
Tesla now have so many unsold vehicles parked up around the States, some of their car parking lots can be seen from space --
reckon there's circa 50,000 unsold vehicles sat about -
their own storage parking is overflowing and they're parking 'em anywhere they can find space to

They missed out on the test most on here would want, `how much is the towing weight` :ROFLMAO:
what a load of crap that was ..... only real thing to come out of that was - expect to lose 50% of what it cost in 18-24 months  and even then struggle to unload it - no mention of battery costs either - or ultimate disposal :(
