Boiler problems

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
If none of the other piping has been disturbed, I'd be checking both ends of the clear pipe in case it's cracked inside the ferrul and drawing air.

As a sanity check, is it worth filling the plastic pipe from the NRV end so you can see the pump drawing it through?
gravity feed the pump from a 2litre coke bottle attached to its inlet ... if it primes, lights and burns .... the issue is elsewhere in the line (like filters/unions)

I eventually used my car brake bleeder on it.

I cleaned the filter at the tank and cleaned the fire valve thing at the boiler.
The filter was a bit shity but not bad.
I thinking my problem or 1 of the problems is shity fuel. The fuel coming through the clear pipe into boiler has small particles in it. Think there's an issue you can get with heating oil, a bio organism.
So I after advise again
Thanks for everyone's help

the filter will block more with water than shite Dyl ... a water saturated filter will not flow kero .... have had it before :(
any water in the tank will settle at the bottom .. outlet end of the tank should be higher than t'other end, which should have a drain bung in to remove the water, which accumulates at the lowest point

The kero is flowing but perhaps not as it should. I should be able to get a pipe into bottom of tank to pump the water out if there is any.
There's no drain tap on bottom of tank

Tanks are installed level for the last 30 odd years , although a single skin steel with a drain at low end is a very practical idea , just sadly breaches building regs!

You can get water absorbing filters that you drop into the tank in a cord. No idea if they actually work?
They do , but expensive and only take up small amounts of water.
If you have and discernible water at base if tank then use a pump or a vac and suck it off the bottom, like cleaning a fish tank. If there is any settled dirt in the tank you will get that as well.
We use water finding paste which turns a funny colour in water but not kero, smear it on the end of a folding rule and dip it to base of tank.
Kerosene very unlikely to hold biological material , that’s usually only derv, they are very different fuels.
You need to have a proper 10 micron paper element filter on the line near the boiler. Crossland 489 is what you want , or something of that pattern. Lots of people sell crappy mesh strainers that they call filters, but not the same thing at all.
If your tank filter dirty then well worth your while blowing through the entire oil line with Compressor, then flushing with clean fuel. You’d be surprised how much stick to the inside of the pipes .

Been messing with cleaning out Kero tanks and polishing Kero for last 20+years so have learnt a few tricks.

Additives are a bit of snake oil, they can work by creating a flocculant ? Effect which can stop dirt settling , but that means it gets drawn through the filter and boiler. Best way is to let it settle and suck of the bottom.

We use a cordless pump with a semi rigid dip tube and a clear suction hose, you can see the difference between clean Kero and water/dirt as you move the dip tube around the base of the tank. Very satisfying indeed :)

Would you replace the fire valve (is this a one way valve)
Job.
Clean water out of tank if there is any.
Put in line paper filter next to boiler.
Blow feed pipe out with clean fuel.

Where's best place to order from, be a job for weekend.
Thanks all

That fire valve is a horrible little thing, and not a one way valve. BES are great.

Check out the install guidelines for your boiler. Page 23 I think?

This is how we do them .. use an isolater and BSP nipples to joint it up. I would probably suggest you dont bother with the isolator valve on your suction system - just fit the 3/8" non return valve instead.

Be sorting this out on Saturday hopefully.
To see if there's any water in the bottom of tank. I'm thinking before I get the pump in there could I just put a bit of clear pipe to the bottom and put my finger over the top bit of pipe. Is this to simple, what am I missing

you'd be very lucky to retain a perfect 'column' in the pipe as it's withdrawn though Dylan -- I'd be more inclined to suck off the bottom and see what you get
