Paying a premium doesn't guarantee getting good people either, subbed to a company a couple of years ago who's majority of lads were lastly and effing useless. Just piss heads and what ever else, wages on a Friday, mostly gone by Monday

One of them took the piss constantly, always quoting they can't get rid of me as they can't get any lads, he eventually got fired on another job, along with his mate who just joined a couple of weeks before, as they weren't turning up on site till gone 10, hungover and doing nothing

Sometimes I think, it would be nice to have a few lads but the reality is most are not worth the hassle. It's bad enough getting labourers let alone any one decent

That's why you can earn decent money being employed. Lots of medium size companies do notice who does what.

I'll believe it when I see it. The the max you will get over here if your not someone's brothers mother Is £15 per hour, and that will probably be self employed but employed. I went for a job interview , a stones throw from Doobin in millionaire country , for a ground source heat pump and well driller firm so must be turning over millions.
They were paying 15 per hour but they'll do you a favor and give you an introductory period to see if you like the job, for which they will pay you £12
. 50 a hour.

Everyone's experiences are different and it might not be offered as you walk off the street but it's definitely common enough. And it would be the leaders, although the teams are usually only 2-3people.
And definitely expected to earn you money.

This thread gives me a headache just reading it….. 🤯
Everyone I have is self employed, if they do a good job they get more work, if they don’t we part ways…. Works for me.
I go on holiday knowing I don’t have 5 blokes sat in a cabin somewhere swapping pics of their other half’s rather than doing any work because I’m not in the country!

I can’t work with that model. We book up service slots 4 times a day for months ahead. Subbys wouldn’t be reliable to that level of detail.

My work differs vastly, we are all out on one job for 12+ months and then can be 6-9 months before I need anyone else on the next job , luckily I have a multi trade father in law and wife who can drive anything so works well.
