Yeah its interesting....they have sold a type of fibres over here for years, telling us its a direct replacement for mesh in lighter applications, we've been dubious so as with this job any time there was significant load on it we've gone with what we know works ie mesh, but it might well be worth putting fibers in to help with potential plastic cracking or shrinkage as they are not looking for a fancy finish, as @Steve says they can show.

Im well aware concrete is a bit of a black art and a specialist job if your going for the best finishes etc, while we have floated floors and got decent results in thd past nowadays we only do concrete as part of a bigger project and keep it basic, this garage is getting another finish down the line.

I dont pretend to be an expert by any means.

I had the same issue here . I asked my structural engineer for a spec using it in my house . 200m2 floor slab and founds . Just to see what he’s say. He came back with you can’t use it in the footings as it doesn’t give the same structural strength but I can use it in my structural slab as it reduces shrinkage and there are less loads in the slab .
I won’t be using it anywhere , I like to think I do a decent job upfilling under structural slab but I like the piece of mind that if any area sinks so much as a couple mm the slab will stay bridged over it with mesh in it but I would t be as confident with the fibres .

Try working with them every day. The amount of dust suppression bottles we go through is unbelievable. And they all have fairly decent dust masks. Not the disposable ones, mostly screwed up under the seat,then they won't wear them as the are dirty.

Or steel and fibres in your slab to cover both base - strength and potential plastic cracking !? Then cover it for a month to slow down curing

Used plastic fibres on afew jobs, by request of the client, big industrial unit and wash bay, been down 3 years with no problems(C35 mix).. gave them ago on my garage at home too - all good. Both hand floated - fibres do pull up abit but wear off pretty quickly.
My industrial units have 8mm mesh in them on good ground, bad ground would see it beefed up a lot more!

Finally dry enough to finish this job. Pulled the scrub out just before it rained for two months solid. Was the last job for the old E27.

Got back on it today with the new e27, alpine and flail collector and the multione for scratching about. Beautiful weather and I was no longer sliding about. I'd tried to go back during a break in the weather, but the tractor wasn't having it so we abandoned it. I didn't want to leave it too long into the growing season otherwise we'd end up with a major amount of cut and collect to clear. When we went back today the piles of pulled scrub had dried out nicely and the brambles were sprouted but not terribly thick, so easy enough to cut and will knock it back hard as it's put all it's energy into regrowing.

When I quoted this job, there was no fence at either the top or the bottom of the hill.... I was glad to have the clamshell. I pushed the pulled scrub down the hill, guiding it with the grab to try to stop it balling up. I threw it all over the fence, then went the other side of the fence with some diesel and a blowtorch to recreate the Kuwait oil fields.

No bad for a days work with two of us.

Bit of welding on this box today. Ugh.

Plasma for gouging is very handy. No way am I taking the whole thing off and the deck plate off, it’s steel rivets.

All done. Did the two side supports plus the foot at the top- no point welding to the old one! As you can see, lots of bits we had to cut off and weld back on.

Of course, without removing the chequer plate the back side couldn’t be welded, but my three sides welded will be plenty strong enough and the tension when loading is the right way anyhow.

£500 plus vat seemed fair. By fair I mean, customer will think it’s expensive and you’ll think why did I spend all day on that? One of those days where there’s two of you in the yard but not both working on it all the time. But fk me, the gear you need just to do a simple job efficiently! Must have used ten file sander belts, had four grinders out, plasma cutter etc. managed to pull a bottle over too so that’s a new gauge if not a whole new reg.

Then found an outlet pipe that nobody seemed capable of finding

then a big job for local bar .....rocks for water feature......after lots of consideration regarding health and safety we tracked it up from the yard.....landlord at the helm of the dumper

Ranger gone, disco taxed and insured (for a reasonable price!!), 10 minutes later mate rings me up....
can I pop round- 17 miles - to help move a cabinet down to his workshop. Bloody hell it was a lump, as high as a door, down a staircase with a 180 in it and tip top new build quality banisters total charge for this help, 30 Zebedees for this weekends roof rack project, i think I've been had
I've got the car for his estate, just need to get a Custom and I'd fit right in

Funny but although its different I dont mind a few hours on an old school setup - different way of working but if you've been at it long enough its business as usual.

How fussy were they on the collection?
We had one collected last year that had a proper good old twat up the rear corner ..charged an extra £210 .... Easily a few £ks worth of damage
