its a barmy 2C here. floorboarding which is a load of fun as the glue says +5c only and is like treacle. be great not to do any work for 5 months as all the gear is out of spec due to weather. would get loads done and houses would be even cheaper!

Ranting angry impatient YouTube farmers who want everything yesterday don’t help!
Any ones in particular, or just all of them? 😄
I don't mind Harry's Farm now and again, like Clarkson he's not a proper farmer (motoring journalist), but does own and run a huge farm for some reason. He talks about the issues of modern farming, logs his yields, losses etc and presents it simply and factually. In his latest he shows how farmers are now making more money from these re-wilding type schemes than producing food.
Which is a bit worrying.
I wonder if Clarkson will be covering it in his next series....

In the weather news it's blown and snowed most of today here, I don't think we've been snowed in yet, but don't care.

Is the book any good? I've never bothered with them as I thought they were book versions of the program (a lot of his other books are collections of his newspaper columns). When he's not dicking around with Hammond & May he turns out some good stuff, 'I know you got soul' is worth reading and his WW2 docs are well worth watching too if you haven't already seen them..

I’ve no problem with clarkson, he’s definitely opened the eyes of the general public! Yeah a lot of it is dramatised for the TV, but that’s obvious! I like the fact he wants to learn and do it properly. Plus he’s doing it to evade shed loads of tax 😂👌🏻

Loved his documentary on the Victoria cross...then at the end he said it was his father in law. Class that 😊

I enjoyed the book. Very light easy reading and quite entertaining. I think it is a collection of a column he does though. Quite similar to the TV series though...

I did wonder what the government and Supermarkets are playing at, what their true intentions or end goals are, in mainland Europe as well.
It's as if they're trying to put the farmers out of business at a time when we (in the UK) should be working harder to be self sufficient in areas that we can be.

I think it's a move to growing F&V in factories. In hypocrite Attenboroughs latest series he did a bit on it, they were growing it in huge thin towers under artificial lights. If you think about it we currently grow food per square (metre, acre, Hectare, whatever), but this meant they could grow it per cube (cubic metre, acre etc) so a much more efficient use of space. No predators either of course, no bugs, slugs, birds, fungus to attack it in this super clean controlled environment, no bad weather either.
It won't taste as good, but rare is the person who has tasted decent food anyhow so that won't be missed, it'll be perfect and cheap which is what most people want/need.

A mate rears beef cattle and buys a lot of feed in. He pulled a business plan together to quickly hydroponically force-grow an energy dense feedstock (possibly a type of bean, I can’t remember exactly what it was) on trays in racks in shipping containers. The entire contents of the plant trays (including roots and growing medium) would be added to the cattle feed.
He was talking about this a few years ago but as far as I know never progressed it - his calculations all seemed to add up though.
